Well my dear, it sounds like you had a little friend in the home with you.

I don't normally jump to paranormal first, but the shoe thing bugs me. There are plenty of places with spirits in them that really do NOT mean you harm. They sometimes just want you to know they're there. In those cases, I'd just ignore it. When they start rearranging shoes and blowing your light bulbs though, I'd recommend telling them to please stop or do something a little less destructive or annoying. This usually works.
In the last place I lived, we had a few spirits. One was of a little girl. She'd follow me around the house as I was cleaning and just kinda hang out though I wouldn't pay her any mind. My daughter was friends with her, though.

Anyway, the first Christmas in the house, we'd put up the Christmas tree and had this ornament hooked up to the lights that you could touch to turn the lights off and on.
To give you a bit of a scenario, the living room was huge, tree in the corner. The wall that the tree was against, my bedroom was on the other side. We always slept with the door open so we could hear the kids if they called out. So, we're laying there, had turned the tree lights off of course, and all of a sudden the lights came back on. I told the ex to get up and go turn them off, thinking some sort of electrical glitch. He did, came back to bed, and about 5 minutes later it happened again. Again, he turned them off, and before he could even get back to the bedroom door they came on again. I can't really explain why, but I knew it was the little girl. So anyway, I told him just come back to bed and close the bedroom door.
This happened for about 3 nights and the ex started messing around, sitting in front of the tree and turning the lights off and asking whoever was in the house to turn them back on. On they would come. It was at that point he started getting afraid.

I just sort of laughed at him, and said something like "Okay, please stop doing that, you're frightening the old man. The lights have to stay off at night or the house could burn down. Enjoy them before bed, but then leave them alone." Didn't happen again after that. It doesn't always take a strong hand to deal with them. Sorry... kinda went off there lmao.
