You will burn. You will freeze. And the moon will explode. Four gruesome apocalypse scenarios from the September 1939 issue of Popular Science.

It's like we never got past being cavemen huddling by the fire for protection.  Wondering what was about to come out of the dark.....

We've cast the world, we've set the stage,
for what could be, the darkest age...

Funny. Just like later generations will laugh about our current "greenhouse gas" hoax.

the real irony there was the date it was published: a very appropriate time to be envisaging apocalyptic scenarios, perhaps.

Life is a hideous business, and from the background behind what we know of it peer daemoniacal hints of truth which make it sometimes a thousandfold more hideous.

H. P. Lovecraft.

Thank you for that link.  Some of the inventions in that issue are still being used today, in one form or another.  The little gadgets to prevent lines and wrinkles are now called "frownies" and are for sale in magazines even now.  I think that's cool.  As for the end of the world, I'm not worried about it. We will all probably die at the same time, if we are still alive when that time comes.
