I have treasure books that tell about the money pit on oak island. Most of my books are older than you people that are talking about it. The last official attempt to retrieve anything from the pit Was in 1972, One of the Rokefellows was in the group with other very rich people. They drilled down with a special bit with a camera attached to the bit. Hooked up to a closed circuit t.v. It showed at least one foot deep of treasure, 10' by10' square.Every 10' is a platform of hued logs 12" squared, then 10 more feet of soil, then another wood platform. This happened for 90feet. Some people tried to dig it out by hand, and when they broke thru the timber the hole wood fill with seawater and it has drowned about 6people over some years. They used to claim this is the eighth wonder of the world. The ingenous way the pit was built so many years ago.It was thought that a famous pirrate had made the pit and put his plunder in it. Their is at least three or four tunnels from the salt water to the shaft, every time you break thru a wood platform the hole fills up with salt water.  I have a theory how to retrieve the treasure if the cost dont overide the amount. of gold and jewells you get. At the price of gold nowadays i dont think that would happen. I forgot to add when they pulled up the bit it had bits of.gold on it. they also showed the picture on tv of the gold and jewelry in the magazine.

At the time of the Treasure book story, the first tunnel was discovered and fixedwith 100 lbs. sand bags.It stopped the flow of salt water into the pit. they was working on filling the second tunnel with sand bags and had divers looking for other tunnels.

The people that wrote the articles for the magazines.Thats where i read the stories. If you can find the mags. some have been out of print since 1969-70. I imagine you could find the old mags. but they would have to pay premium price since they were considerd classics and collector books when they were printed Iknow i would not sell mine butyou can try advertising fo them There names were True Treasure, Treasure World, with the editorbeing Long John Latham. He died several years ago. True Treasure is now published by another co. They might can help you out with back issues. or storries because they own all rights to everything that was printed in all the mags.

The last thing that i read about the money pit was people thought that if they dug a hole down beside the original hole to avoid the timbers and possibley the salt water, that they could tunnel over to the treasure .So they dug another hole beside the original and hit water salty. Then they went to the other side and dug again and the result is more than one hole and over time people will forget which hole is the right one. The last i read their was 3-4 holes.

Oak Island is a very interesting story. I actually got to go there one day last summer for a tour. We wern't allowed off the paths or anything like that but it was quite interesting, the supposed money pit and the other pits (There is another by the beach I believe) were pretty small though, I always pictured them to be huge in my head. I almost fell off the ledge into the money pit at one point   .
Becareful CC once you're in there would be no way of escaping! :w00t:

Hey Flash... no I'm not from the Lowlands and I'm not Roman Catholic.  The Reformation had quite an effect in Scotland.  You lost your bet... lol

What do I know about your "side of the world"?  Nothing.  That's why am curious.

So I guess we'll never know what lies beneath Oak Island. I wish someone would just give it one more try. With modern technolgy we should be able to uncover it's secrets if there are any.

I believe the latest theory focuses on where the United States government is throwing our tax dollars.

Gold?
What I remember about the pictures is seeing gold chains of all sizes, rubies, emeralds, diamonds, pendants, and all types of jewerly in a great big pile. It seemed like the hole had an empty space between the gold and above it,  like it was just below a layer of timber. But im just like everyone else. My magazine collection is in Az. I have to go and get it, probably in oct. or nov. of this year. People started searching for this back in early 1900's how they found out about is allmost unknown. There was a map of some sort carved in trees near the site and was deciphered by someone, whose name has probably lost in time. I also read where the map was removed from the island where no one else could read it.It might still be around, passed down by family members.

I will post my theory that ive had for years, since the first time i read the story. All you have to do is have a piledriver, some sheets of pilling. Enough to make a 20by20 square around the right hole. For people that dont know, sheet pilling interlocks with each other. It almost makes a water proof seal between each sheet. Drive them down to about 4" above the ground, have a welder weld them together on end, then drive it down. You would only have to go about 100' deep. Then set up wellpoints inside box to pull water out. Use crane with clam shell to dig out dirt and logs inside. Now you would need a crane with clamshell, pile driver rig, a diesel motor for pumps, and a couple of good rig operaters, barges to float the cranes with, sheet pilling, two certefied welders. AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF CASH.

i'm just a couple hours drive away from nova scotia, and have been hearing stories about it for years, i haven't the slightest idea if there is anything down there or not but ya gotta wonder, seems like a lot of work for just a hoax, i have a feeling there won't be an answer anytime soon
