Small male seahorses suffer from 'short man' syndrome, a new study from the University of Zurich claims, and are the ocean's equivalent of Bernie Ecclestone or Rod Stewart as they chase after the tallest females in order to mate with them.

I think it kinda makes sense...... compensate for 'short genes' by mating with a female that has 'tall genes'.... so the seefawns would eventually grow to be of a more normal height...... I guess.

EDIT: I was just letting my imagination run wild..... imagine that all tall seahorses only mate with other tall seahorses, and the short ones only with other short ones.....passing on their height genes. In a couple of generations, you might end up with giant whale sized seahorses, and microscopicly tiny seahorses!
