The Pitbull Unleashed?

US Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin has accused the Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama, of associating with terrorists.

She said he had been "palling around" with an ex-member of US-based militant group Weather Underground, which opposed the Vietnam War in the 1960s.

Mr Obama once served on a charity board with a member of the group, but he has denounced its activities.

.

.

.

The group was blamed for a number of bombings in the US in the 1960s.

Mrs Palin described Mr Obama as someone who saw the US "as being so imperfect... he is palling around with terrorists who would target their own country".

Mr Obama served on a charity board several years ago with Mr Ayers, who is now a professor at the University of Illinois.

The White House hopeful, who was a child when Weather Underground was active, has denounced Mr Ayers' radical past.

Is this a reaction to the negative response to her 'folksiness' in the V.P. debate?

Whatever, it is disappointing to see such transparent tactics being used. No-one is naive enough to think dirty tactics don't make up part of such a campaign, but attacking a candidates credentials and/or policy is different to character smears. I don't think this will work out well either for Palin or for the Republican campaign.

My apologies if this has already been posted.

If Palin is such an upstanding citizen, why, then, did the Republicans file a lawsuit to keep allegations that she abused power hushed? I'm not sure if the Alaskan Supreme Court ruled on that yet.

While I understand the need for legal process, Irish, I firmly believe common sense should be used in cases where an exception should be made. A politician is meant to be the representative of the electors (in a democracy) and the electors should have access to all information about a politician wanting to represent them so they can make an informed choice.

For a politician to do otherwise (conceal or modify information about their character or policy) is misrepresentation - and I am not partisan about this, it applies equally to all politicians.

As for the article about Palin, I get the feeling she has been ordered to be more aggressive (as I stated earlier, to balance out the negativity about her folksiness), but her inexperience will be made more apparent in the lack of sophistication of her attacks on the Democratic campaign.

I agree. Which is why I've lost a lot of respect for McCain/Palin when I found out about the lawsuit. The folksy appeal she has about her will lose its force if people find out she's just another crook. Which is why I think they are shifting the campaign into the typical Republican fear-mongering. "Can't get 'em to like us, then we'll get 'em to fear the other guy."

well i think maybe this is the exception you spoke of. common sense is, that which you failed to use in this comment below.

you dont really think she is the brains behind her campaign do you. why would it lack sophistication she is only a cog in the machine not the machine its self. although she may not be sophisticated she has campaign workers who are. the people running this campaign are not the candidates. it is the party and has always been so.

I could be mistaken, but I think I read somewhere that this is the first time we have ever had a VP candidate ignoring a legitimate federal subpoena in the history of this country...

What a way to start out your candidacy! After her comment about expanding the role and power of the VP(from what cheney has done no less) she has really got herself the makings of a good cheney replacement...nice and secretive...

Yeah. She's bordering on the ridiculous. To some, she already was. But for me, she is now.

I dont understand why that matter isnt being pointed out...talk about an issue of integrity. If you cant trust the vice president(or her cabinet, or her husband) to honor a subpoena in an abuse of power case she is the focus of, it really does tell me that there is a serious flaw in her judgment. If she is going to do this kindo f stuff as a governor, imagine what she can pull as a VP/president...

Hey, we got a Prez and a Vice ignoring the constitution...what is a little subpoena to that?

Dont remind me...

I dont get it...It just amazes me to think that somehow the founding fathers didnt think this stuff out. The VP's job is pretty clear. as is their power. I am tired of the "I am neither executive or legislative branch so I can get away with murder(or shooting people in the face...) kind of thinking. Both of the numbskulls running the country have pushed their power far beyond anything anyone ever has or should have...and they got away with it.

It drives me crazy and sick to my stomach to see the new low standard...We are paying for it now in so many ways...

But its not only the politicians, during the cold war I interviewed a Communist leader about his vision of the world, as he did not mention America I asked him about it, his face lit up and he said: "America? What do you expect of a country where three quarts of the high school graduates cannot read what is printed on their diploma? That problem will resolve itself".

At the time I thought the guy was nuts...now I am not so sure anymore.

While there are some very clever and sophisticated (in the political sense) people behind Palin in the Republican Campaign, she is still the one that has to deliver the message and, as she showed in the VP debate, she is naturally a 'folksy' person rather than a sophisticate. I do not mean to imply she is stupid by any means, but I get the impression she is not yet ready for the Machiavellian world of high-level politics. She can dance and sing to a tune well enough, maybe even choreograph a school production, but she does not have it in her (yet?) to produce a Broadway musical.

Yeah -- all of it. He knows the guy. It is guilt by association and nothing more. He doesn't go "palling around with the guy" as she claims. It's 100% fear-mongering. And your Republicans buy into it and perpetuate it every election year.

Fear mongering? What do you call a political party who every election reminds everyone how terrible their life would be and how they would starve if they don't vote for them so they can provide?

The critical distinction is simple: what the Democrats say is true. People know they don't have any money. They know that the Republican idea of how to run an economy, trickle down economics, can be likened to someone p***ing on your head and it trickling down to your leg. Somehow that is supposed to help you. It doesn't work. The last 8 years is proof of that.

Of course. Should I say people like Dennis Hastard are "palling around with pedophiles," considering Mark Foley was in Congress with him?

And , lets' hear what the Democrats will do? Something like a Chavez economic plan?

As you can see, you are doing a fear mongering yourself, for the last 8 years we saw a recovery from the last year of the Clinton economic slow down, and had a 49 months of economic growth and a low 4.0% of jobless rate before the economy slowed down again in the last 8 years. You see how you acuse everyone of lying and you do it yourself???

Equating American liberalism to socialism is silly.

But Obama denounced it, so he knows and yet he joined, right?
