Google's Alphabet unveils new bipedal robot

The robot was created by Alphabet-owned Schaft, a Japanese company with a German-sounding name, and is quite different to efforts from Google's Boston Dynamics division which the firm is looking to sell off.

The unnamed robot (we'd call it Claude) was shown off at the New Economic Summit in Tokyo and demonstrated how it can traverse uneven ground and balance on surfaces with unsure footing. This is achieved with disproportionately large legs and compact central body that can move up and down.

Amazing! I'm jealous. It walks better than I do. Of course I just had my knee reconstructed. Another item to dust and take into "the shop" for its warranty check-ups. I can see these robots going shopping with the 1%-ers carrying all of their items because it's just too strenuous to do it themselves.

Can we put that reanimated brain from the other article in the robot yet?

We would all have personal robots by now, if we didn't waste so much time, effort, and money, making them look humanoid.

Then the robot would just want to hop and ravage your garden.

There was a personal robot fad in the 1980's. I still have one I bought called Hero JR. He rolls around in a shell like a trashcan, talks, and navigates with sonar. Doesn't do anything practical though.

As long as it's not this guy, we're good.
