Coolguy45676 Posted August 10, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2011 What is this that I have? Its like Solipsism, but I think its something different? What is this that I have? Its like Solipsism, but I think its something different? I, like someone that has solipsism, fears that I am the only person in the world, but, unlike solipsists, don't feel that everything is here from my imagination. I instead think that god, or someone like that, put me here, and only me (or maybe a few others, but not many), and that everyone else is not real, a bit like robots or something. The main two reasons I think this are that: 1) Loads of werid coincidences seem to be happening to be recently, and i feel that god, or whoever, put me here, is making them happen to me. The reason this makes me think that I am the only person (or one of only a few)in the world, is that if the world had like 6 billion real people in it, god, or whoever, would not be able to mke coincidences happen to all of them (one of my coincidences is here, and I worked out that this had a 1 in 50616 chance of happening! http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind… 2) My second reason is that loads of things that other humans seem to do, like build planes, etc, seem impossible). Could someone please tell me what these thoughts are called, and how I could help to overcome them, and also try and tell me a resonably explanation behind what these coincidences are? Watch a documentary about the history of flight, you will see things like planes are very much man made through many years of hard work and trial and error. Also, have you seen a film called The Matrix? You sound like you might believe that it could be real.

Kyle Richard M. Posted August 10, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2011 You should talk to someone about it. It might help. Also, If we are not real, how are we responding to you?

Well, solipsism syndrome isn't even recognized by the APA yet and mostly occurs in astronauts. Now, if you want to follow the philosophy of solipsism that's one thing. But honestly, this sounds a bit paranoid and maybe not schizophrenia, but something similar. I would see a therapist honestly. Building planes is certainly an amazing feat but it's obviously not impossible. God doesn't need to make coincidences happen to all 6 billion people on the planet, because they happen on their own. Coincidences are just that, coincidences.
WoIverine Posted August 10, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2011 (edited) You are ultimately in control of the reality you perceive. It all boils down to choice. Do you choose to be affected, or do you choose not to be? It's as simple as that really. If you choose not to be, put those thoughts into action, as you progress, you will eventually be fine. Coolguy45676 Posted August 10, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted August 10, 2011 Here how I am feeling about this in a lot more detail: I, like someone that has solipsism, fears that I am the only person in the world, but, unlike solipsists, don't feel that everything is here from my imagination. I instead think that god, or someone like that, put me here, and only me (or maybe a few others, but not many), and that everyone else is not real, a bit like robots or something. Could someone please tell me what these thoughts are called, and how I could help to overcome them, and also try and tell me a resonably explanation behind what these coincidences are? Even as soon as about an hour ago one of these coincidences happened. I asked a question on yahoo anwsers about enoch powell, and whether fellow yahoo answerers thought whether he should of got into power and why/why not. Anyway, then I went onto facebook and a page that I like had like the exact same question on a status. These coincidences seem to happen day in, day out, several times a day. But heres the sinister bit. Im not going into this in mich detail, but a few coincidences have lead me to believe that I could be faced with death on 25/10/11, which has caused me to break down total, and I am really scared that these coincidences are more than just concidences, and that I am going to die on that date. I'm really scared .
WoIverine Posted August 11, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) Maybe you sub-consciously attract synchronicity by just focussing on it, and letting it consume your thoughts? That is another term for the coincidences most people experience that seem unbelievable. Maybe it's easier than that. I think we're all here for a purpose, and when that moment is right, we will know. Ever see that movie by M. Knight, called Signs? The alien spin on it was kind of lame, but the concept about things happening for a reason was great, loved that. Ratte Posted August 11, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 11, 2011 Ah, what an interesting topic you have here! I get those type of feelings from time to time, and they used to scare me, but they don't anymore. What I did to "get over" them (because I haven't really gotten over them, just 'rationalized' them in a way that I can comprehend) was think something along the lines of "Well, if I'm the only one, then I shouldn't feel so bad, becuase when I am dead, none of this will have mattered... So I might as well just enjoy this life." I had these feelings that you speak of a lot between the ages of twelve and nineteen, but they are few and far between now. I can even openly talk about them and they don't bring about that feeling anymore. I found that my best friend "Jade" had feelings of the same type and we helped each other through it. I'd be happy to talk more with you if you need to.

They could be anything from an obsessive–compulsive disorder to dissociation disorder. You should be asking someone trained in psychiatry.

Damrod Posted August 11, 2011 #15 Share Posted August 11, 2011 I would definitely talk to a real councilor about it if indeed it is bothering you that much...there may be some analysts on these forums, but I'm pretty sure they are not going to chime in and offer professional advice.
