Pareidolia

Aftermath

Recommended Posts

A buddy of mine found this story and picture on the internet.

http://www.redbookmag.com/life/news/a21336/she-was-just-a-little-girl-when-this-photo-was-taken-but-itll-haunt-her-for-life/

It freaked us out for a second, but then I came to my senses. I'm sure this picture has been vetted before and debunked...I just cannot find it. Will a someone please debunk this picture, explain the pareidolia? My buddy is convinced it's a ghost picture.

Thanks.

The family *says* there was no other child that could have been in the picture. This isn't pareidolia, this is simply a story being put forth by these people.

Well here's the definition of pareidolia and explaination for those not familiar with it:

http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Pareidolia

I don't remember ever seeing this photo and it is creepy. I can't wait to hear the rational explanation for this. I honestly have no idea...I mean outside of it being some sort of reflection or something I don't know.

Thanks for sharing. I like creepy unexplained stuff. Can't wait to see what others say. I'm sure I will have an *a-ha* moment when someone else debunks it :tu:

Edited to add: doesn't the assumed *ghost* look sort of skewed in a slender, up-and-down way? Like it was squished almost sideways to appear thinner? This sort of makes me think of photoshop a little, like the image was skewed inwards to fit on that little spot. I don't know. Something just seems *off* to me.

And looks like the little girl from the original poltergeist movie. Who just happened to pass away by the second movie, and the remake is coming out soon. must be a coincidence

It looks way more than a painting in the background than an alleged 'ghost', in fact I would hazard a guess it is a framed painting by Sanda Kuck. If not by her then it is by some who copies her style.

Yeah this isn't pareidolia, the image of the girl in the background is either a picture plastered on to the wall in the room or a digital image deliberately added to the photograph afterwards using Photoshop.

I would also say it does look an awful lot like the girl from the Poltergeist movies.

It doesn't look like pareidola, it looks like there's a real child or one of those creepy life size dolls there. I have to go with Lilly, we can't know the truth of the situation and its even possible that the people present have remembered something incorrectly.

Now that you mention it, there is an odd tilt to her face that makes it look like her image is on a flat surface that is at a 20-30 degree angle from the camera view.

Yes Saru. That's what I'm thinking too :tu:

That's what I was trying to describe using the words "squished" and "skewed" You have described this much better than me

Its either a genuine image with a fake story attached, or some image fakery. The story is too bizarre for me!! As others have pointed out its not whats known as pareidolia

This is though

Maybe it's just me, but I find it extremely odd that a ghost would appear to be holding a goose...which may have on some kind of sweater.

I disagree, this is pareidolia as that is not an image of a girl in the background. I contend the photograph is eliciting a psychological response: the trick of light and shadow in the background is being perceived as something significant (i.e., image of girl or alleged ghost).

Ummm I don't understand this one? What does a cinnamon bun (?) or whatever it is have to do with this lady? Is this Mother Theresa?

I had to google that Goerge Ford but yes indeed it does look like Sanda Kuck's artwork :tu: Good idea. You just never know, right?

It is Mother Theresa yes. Now some people would see her image - in the bun, and thats whats called pareidolia. Seeing something familiar in a totally abstract place. Some people see the face of Jesus in their food...while some dont see it at all

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it looks like the girl from the poltergeist movie. Or that it looks odd, like it's been photoshopped in or something akin to that line of rationale.

Has anyone tried to use Google Goggles on the alleged "spirit"? That "spirit" looks like a painting to me of an eerie child. Plus, every image I have seen of a ghost photobomb is not so colorful. Definitely strange; but, authentic, I need more to go by then just a psychic telling her that she is being followed by a child spirit.

My question would be for more info before commenting but the self proclaimed skeptics jump right in there anyway. I ask, she was 4 but how long ago was this made? If longer than 25 years then it couldn't have been "Photoshopped". Was this the only picture or is ther a before and/or after shot?

Skeptics always say don't jump to the paranormal conclusion without all the "facts" but they have no problem doing it themselves!

WHAT? Photoshop works on any image, no matter how old.

Heres President Kennedy and an alien. The original image being MUCH MORE than 25 years old - Oh - and just to be clear, its not a real alien

"its not a real alien" Just had to show your butt right?

So you're saying every picture of paranormal has to be photoshopped? And everyone knows how to use it? You give mankind too much credit!
