Yes it's early days but i believe that America is ready to take it's place at the head of the table again. Obama will regain the respect and admiration that

Bush and his hawks squandered over the last 8 years. What a pleasure to see an articulite , intelligent President in waiting once again.

He brings all the excitement and anticipation that Kennedy generated back in the day. Let's just hope that the worst side of American politics doesn't come out and they dont try to kill him.

I was well impressed with his victory speech and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I didn't see him look at his speech even once, compare this to what he's taking over from ......they guy can't even pronounce some words let alone string them together.

I really hope that he can change not only America but the rest of the World for the better.......after all Bush has changed it for the worse.

Sorry if any Republicans are offended but that's just the way it is.\

I'm looking forward to seeing Obama take the reigns and get on with it........Once again Well done America, you have come through and shown the way once again.

Go Obama....

Lets give him time first, people seems to be getting over excited. He faces difficult times ahead and critical decisions have to be made, changing the world will take time, He's no over night miracle worker, he is only Human after all. i just hope he delivers on his promises and doesn't end up going down the same route of all politicians. our American friends made a right howler last time by voting Bush in TWICE. i just hope they've learned from their mistake and have picked the right man for the job. only time will tell.

One thing that slightly worries me is Obama's constant talk of "World " this. And " Global " that.

Maybe I listen to Pat Buchanan too much. And have a bit of an " isolationist " streak in me. But that tone doesn't go over very well with me.

We'll see.

Trouble is that all politicians claim that they're gonna do great things if you vote for them. But as yet, I cannot think of many that have actually delivered, except perhaps Churchill.

Lord, yes. He is, after all, don't forget, a politician. And that means he promises a lot of things, because it's easy to promise things when no one's expecting you to deliver them straight away. I'm not saying he lied about anything, necessarily, just that it may not turn out to be as easy to deliver on things as it is to promise them. And then, of course, if things don't change overnight and on January 21st, the world doesn't wake up to a blissful new dawn, and the world, instead, carries on pretty much as it's always done, you know that the Right will start tearing into him, in the usual tiresome us-versus-them left-versus-right way of American politics. I'm not expecting a "New dawn for Humanity", as i'm sure i saw some newspaper headline say today, but neither do I expect him to turn the US into the USSR and start herding dissenters into the Gulags, as some of the more excitable seem to anticipate.

YES, Because since I was a little girl I have always wanted to live in a Socialist Nation where my government controls every aspect of my life.

OH Wait, NO I haven’t!!!!!!! I would have moved to Canada. Because their health care system is Working sooooo marvelously.

Being put on a waiting list to see a crappy Dr. is not my idea a good healthcare.

I can’t wait to see all the wonderful "New Change" Obama has in store.

So you think.

It can always get worse. I bet you anything that by the time Obama takes office he will be telling us,

"Oops sorry, now that I have been looking under the hood I can no longer offer the tax cuts for the middle class I promised. In fact we will be raising your taxes to make up for all this mess George Bush got us in"

I am quite happy here in Canada and I can assure you I have always received the best care from our health system. I am thankful I didn't have to worry about how to pay the hospital bill when my two children were born. When I had an irregular PAP test, I was in quickly to see a specialist and I was able to have it removed in a timely manner. I can get in to see my doctor whenever I need to and my pediatrician in always on call. Nope, I have no complaints.

Since you brought up Bush I will add that Bush does have to take a lot of responsibility for the current situation. To just not mention Bush becuse a new president has been elected is silly. It will probably take over 8 years to mend what Bush has done and yes he will be held accountable no matter how much the right wants to shift blaim from Bush to Obama. It's the easy way out right, so of course every righty is going to jump on that band wagon. Tax's lol every American should worry about tax's, it's the only way you guys are going to get out of this mess so why don't you just accept that higher tax's are un-avoidable. I do hope that if Obama does show to be a good leader that the right will have the decency to acknowledge it. I know that if he does not do a good job the left will be all over him with out the right having to even worry about it. Obama is going to be watched like a hawk and every move is going to be documentedand the left will be watching him so don't worry to much. The left seems to be able to get around the "perfect leader syndrom" Oh and since I'm Canadian I'm actually a republican in liberal's clothing lol

ye gods and little fishes, when will people get a sense of proportion? Why this leaping to the most wild extremes you can possibly think of all the time that characterises so much of American politics? "Being put on a waiting list to see a crappy Dr" is hardly creating a Socialist Nation where my government controls every aspect of my life. Try researching the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics or the Deutsche Demokratische Republik to get an idea of what it's really about.

And I wonder how the Canadians feel about being referred to as "a Socialist Nation where my government controls every aspect of my life", although maybe they're used to it by now.

I can't believe how much the extreme right seem to be so concerned with their own well being "I'm alright Jack" ,

They begrudge paying a few extra dollars (perhaps) in taxes to maintain and equitable health service where all can be treated fairly.....if you've got the insurance you'll still be okay. At the moment you could die on some streets there and be stepped over because you don't have the doe rae mee

To listen to some of the fears being voiced you'd think that all your money is going to be taken and you're going to be put to work in the wrokhouses....seems that some of that republican ptropoganda really works eh?.

Anf yet it doesn't seem to matter to these right wingers that Bush has spent TRILLIONS on a war in Iraq that has and will achieve nothing, and will need to be paid for by your taxes for many years to come. And dont try and say otherwise...Iraq had NOTHING to do with 911 and guess what ,they had NO weapons of mass destruction either.......But hey what harm....Haliburton are making big money there right ?

Is this "The American Way" the Right are so proud of?.

Give Obama a chance with your help he will make you the greatest nation on Earth once again..... we all hope and pray

I really hope so, but I believe that your jumping the gun folks.

To me I believe that a lot of americans were swindled of their vote and this "change"

When the lady at Obama's rally earlier this week said " I have been waiting for this ... I no longer will have to worry about my mortgage, I no longer will have to worry about my car payments." She could be coming from another point, but...

A false sense of security leads to a loss of sense and now maybe yours and my cents.

No complaint here BUSH is an IDIOT!!!! Plain and Simple he with the Help of our Current Congress they screwed this country beyond a doubt.

I’m just saying that Obama is not going to be able to keep most of his Campaign promises. Those promises that people claim were the reason they voted for him in the 1st place.

P. S. If Canada has such wonderful healthcare why has there been sooooo many Canadians coming to the U.S for treatment?

I say our medical professionals are some of the best in he world, I work as a Physician Recruiter and people from all over the world come to the U.S for treatment. If they could cut costs without the quality going down that would be key, but I can’t name 1 thing that the Government has got their hand in that is ran proficiently. Not 1 thing!!!

So sorry if I don’t put ANY FAITH in our government running anything that has to do with my Medical Insurance. 401K or retirement plans.

Welcome to my hell (in that sense anyways). Yes, we have many right-wingers in the U.S. (not so many here though) and they are extremely unwilling to share and very materialistic & wasteful. Many are greedy & religious-odd combination isn't it ? I never saw the two combined in Europe-the religious there are very social & willing to help those in need.

The values are very contradictory. But luckily we have great people here too. many are very friendly. I'm in a beautiful place & love it

We love the Irish !! (we have family & friends there)

That's something I find so strange about the people in this country. All some people can do is complain that the money they work hard for is going to be taken from them and given to the poor. Yet quite a few of these people are Christians. Well read your bibles people. It clearly tells a story about a rich man that is told that the only way he is getting to heaven is if he gives up all his material things and money to the poor. Maybe you believe that giving to the poor isn't a part of your religion but that story says different. Stop being so damn selfish. Just because someone doesn't make as much money as you doesn't mean they are lazy it just means their job pays less and that doesn't make them bad people that don't work hard because they probably work harder then you. I personally know someone that had to work 3 jobs and still ended up living in a house with no heat in the winter because it was so hard to pay for heat and she only ate once a weak so that she could feed her kids everyday. This person had 3 jobs and your gonna sit there working your 8 hours a day and complain because your too ****ing selfish to help out anyone but yourself. Seriously you people don't deserve to see the light of day. You complain because you think you work harder then the poor people in this world but the reality is most of those poor people come from the 'hood" and slums of the world and their parents can't afford to send them to private schools and pay for colleges and that's why they go off and sell drugs and become huslters trying to live of the system and go around the laws of are country. If those kids were given the opportunity to go to good colleges for free they would be able to get good jobs and become decent citizens. Yet still people refuse to see the importance of helping others and not only being conserned with themselves. Bad mouthing poorer people because you think they're lazy and not worth the time. The reality is that you need money to get money. If your born into a poor home with no choice of your own then chances are your gonna stay poor. Because honestly who's going to have the money to pay for your education and a simple little job like working at Mcdonalds isn't going to get you anywhere. You can go into the army but who wants to fight for a country that you feel has disowned you and looks on you like your a refugee. Simple things are selling drugs it makes the money you need to help your parents pay for their little shack of a house or rat infested apartment. You have to do what you have to do and the drugs kill the pain so you enjoy being involved with them. That's the majority of the reality of the poor. There are some people that have the oppertunity to make a change in their lives and try to be better people and get a good education but it's hard and it's not logicall to go through all that trouble because chances are you still won't be excepted. You'll still be missunderstood.

Really it never ceases to amaze me how messed up people are. Some people are just sitting their complaining because now they're being forced to help people they don't give two ****s about. Well it shouldn't bother you. You should want to help other people. It shouldn't upset you that you have to help people that are less fortunete then you and the fact that it bothers you just shows how cruil and selfish and uncaring people are. You walk by a homeless person and say 'I'm not giving him money because all he's going to do is spend it on drugs or liquir." Well where's the person that goes to the homeless person and invites them into their home on christmas eve and tries to get them help. Seriously do as Jesus did and have a ****ing heart once in a while.

I've seen people who appear to be having an orgasm and some just in complete ecstasy over Obama's election victory, comparisons with Martin L King, the guy hasn't done anything he might be a load of rubbish, I'd like to ask what do his supporters on here expect of him?

I can see not wanting to pay for people that intentionally sit on their butts, yes. And i wouldn't want to do that either.

But many of these people have mental problems, ranging from depression (chemical or otherwise) to mental handicaps & etc. When someone is clinically depressed they have no incentive nor energy to work, there is no light at the end of the tunnel, no matter what. It's as if their happiness plug has been pulled and it spirals ever more downward out of control-and often leading to self-medication (substance abuse).

These people need medical/mental health intervention.

Often (but not always) they had no healthy role-models and were never offered the tools to succeed on an emotional, psychological level.

Welfare parents often produce welfare children-this where people need to intervene and help these kids who's parents are unwilling or unable to help them succeed.

Got to take care of the mind first & then the rest will follow.

MLOR one of the biggest things that many are saying is religion is not the majority or even close that really it is in its last hours.... that the majority seek peace and unity and are tired of ideologies that seperate us with doctrines of hatred and fear....

we are actually in the process of a great transformation of ideology that no longer is divisive and fear based..its a great moment for all of us around the globe not just the US...

that as a majority globally we want the same thing to get along and find ways to celebrate our diversity.....

That explains my relatives coming to the US to "visit" all the time...and see doctors while they are here.

To all the assorted Europeans and others out there, I hate to say it but...things are not that bad here. Bush is a **** and very poorly spoken. All true. Most of his policies have worked, and after Clinton, the US needed that type of government.

Iraq sucks. The cowardly UN should have taken care of that issue, and we should have simply kicked *** and left. Personally, I'm tired of cleaning up disasters caused by a century of European abuse of third world toilets. But, Bush saw it differently. In the future, I hope it's all left to France to clean up.

Expect more of the same from Obama, with a flashier speech and a pretty face. Little will change, but it'll look prettier from over on your "side of the pond".

What amazes me most, is this myth that the US is full of un-insured homeless people with no jobs and no food.
