Saru Posted October 31, 2003 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2003 *lol* Magic Charm specifically asked me via PM if there were any other threads dedicated to discussing the subject of Witchcraft before posting this, and I told her there wasn't. That one's more on the subject of magic and rituals rather than Witchcraft in general, although I admit I completely missed it, so sorry about that. On saying that though, there's nothing to stop the subject being discussed in this thread aswell.
jadeus69 Posted November 4, 2003 #4 Share Posted November 4, 2003 I think harry potter is makeing a mockery of real witchcraft. Im 16 and my highschool life sucks because im a wiccan everyone thinks im harry potter I annoys the hell out of me. I am really really knowledgable of my craft got tons of books, so im not the wannabe teenager you robaly thought I was It would just be nice to chat with some other witches. Kira Posted November 4, 2003 #5 Share Posted November 4, 2003 I tend to disagree jadeus69. HP has done what other books and programmes have done... made people more aware that they have a choice in what they believe.. It does have a down side as you have found that people can be verynarrow minded about practices that require some belief that is alien to them.. As for wannabe teenager who ever said that? Wicca calls to all young or old, if you hear the call, and accept that is your choice and yours alone. Most pagan practices believe in free will you r just excercising yours.. I have been a witch all my life I have people who have had problems with it, but other come to me to help with herbs etc... Blood Angel Posted November 5, 2003 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2003 I can relate to narrow mindness, i have been praticing witchcraft, for around 2 years. And because of this i am being evicted because by devout christian housemates disapprove and call me the devils work. I do not do it for hurt, or for self gain, i do it to help others. Whatever happened to "Love thy neighbour". I have no problem with them being christian, infact i find the diversity of religion very interesting, everybody needs something to believe in and no matter what religion they all convey the same message (unless of course your devoted to the more darker sides). What i do find irritating however is some peoples extreme fanacticism, to the point of not excepting a person on who they are, but rather on what religion they are. If people starting excepting each other for what makes them human, then the world would be a much more pleasant place.

Seraphina Posted November 5, 2003 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2003 witchcraft - no. I know some people practice it, but I don't think it has any genuine meaning, power, or founding. Physics - ...well...yeah
kreestar Posted November 5, 2003 #9 Share Posted November 5, 2003 I believe witchcraft is more of a religion. They do practice spells but its not the same as being psychic.
Phantom Posted November 5, 2003 #10 Share Posted November 5, 2003 Since there was a similar topic started not too long ago, I took the liberty to merge the two.
Seraphina Posted November 5, 2003 #11 Share Posted November 5, 2003 oh psychics! I thought you meant physics...partly because that's what you wrote...but be that as it may... No, I don't believe in them either in that case
kreestar Posted November 5, 2003 #12 Share Posted November 5, 2003 :gun:sorry that is just fun. I have to believe in psychics. It's hard not to when you get premonitions all the time. So yes I believe.
Althalus Posted November 5, 2003 #13 Share Posted November 5, 2003 I believe that witchcraft works, as it's basic principle is, as has been said in other threads, energy manipulation. And as you all know this happens all the while in just about every way you can think of in everyday sorts of things, for instance when you switch a lightbulb on you manipulate energy. All witches and other pagans do is manipulate it with their mind and also by using elementals and goddesses/gods to help. All the potions, tools and other items are when you get down to it, just aids in concentration, and things for you to focus on.
Starlyte Posted November 5, 2003 #14 Share Posted November 5, 2003 Wicca calls to all young or old, if you hear the call, and accept that is your choice and yours alone. Very well put Celti. I've used similar wording to explain my choice to enter the craft if previous conversations with people. You are wise Celti.
dust19 Posted November 5, 2003 #15 Share Posted November 5, 2003 I know nothing of the topic, but I have a few questions...each one a little more direct. 1) is it basically nothing more than a philosophy of life? 2) does it truly have paranormal relations? or is it just a way of thinking? 3) Are 'spells' similar to 'prayers'? or can they actually yeild obvious physical reactions. 4) Can you really perform 'magic' in the hollywood sense. Althalus Posted November 5, 2003 #16 Share Posted November 5, 2003 As I am only training here, this will be a good way for me to test how much i know and how much I still need to learn, if CW or someone wants to correct me then please go ahead. 1) is it basically nothing more than a philosophy of life? It is a philosophy of life, in that it is how we act, as in the Rede, the same way as any other religion is, but it is also more than that, in that it is what we do also, as it is also a craft, in that we learn things. In this case it is how to respect people and things, and also how to help people, by, say, helping to heal them, tell them there future and reassure them in times of need. 2) does it truly have paranormal relations? or is it just a way of thinking? It has paranormal relations in that faeries and ther elementals do exist on the earth, and we occasionally use there aid in making magik. 3) Are 'spells' similar to 'prayers'? or can they actually yeild obvious physical reactions. Spells are similar to prayers and also are not so, prayers generally ask the deity to do something on a persons behalf, with spells we do that something for ourselves, useually with the aid or blessing of a deity. The spell is really just a way to attune the mind to what we are trying to do and to help direct the energy in that path. 4) Can you really perform 'magic' in the hollywood sense. Magic in the hollywood sense? No, majik in witchcraft is nothing more than the control of energy, of which you do not see, if you are attuned to it, you can sometimes feel the energy moving and forming. But, there is no lighting bolts, nor any flashes. And no, we cannot turn anyone into anything else, although I have read that we can make someone believe that they are that creature or whatever. dust19 Posted November 5, 2003 #17 Share Posted November 5, 2003 thank you, now I understand it more. It is something that takes years upon years of training and dicipline. Could it be concidered an art form? Total mind control, body control and nature control working hand in hand simultaneously. I can understand why some might take offence to the booming 'witch' related merchandise these days...especially the books I always see geared towards 15 year old girls that contain 'spells' on how to get the 'cute guy' to like them. Kryso Posted November 6, 2003 #18 Share Posted November 6, 2003 I believe Harry Potter films have opened peoples minds to the world of witchcraft ... One time it was a touchy subject, thinking only weird unwashed, warty people practise such things… no offence, lol. I believe in witchcraft, and how it can change things through manipulation and working with the elements and energies… Not the flying on broomsticks and parcel tongue, chatting with snakes, lol… But I believe that witchcraft has a lot to do with herbs, effecting the harmonies of the body, joining it more harmoniously with its environment, etcetera… And how to get the energies to flow properly and being able to perfect ones balance with nature… I think there’s a lot of mystique put to the word witch, or witchcraft… I believe it is nature at its best! The perfected homeopathy.
