Bernie Sanders takes the lead

questionmark

Recommended Posts

Vermont senator Bernie Sanders has taken the lead from former secretary of state Hillary Clinton for the first time in a poll in the crucial early voting state of Iowa, as the self-declared socialist Democrat continues to tighten the race with the party establishment favorite.

A Quinnipiac University poll released on Thursday found that 41% of likely Democratic primary voters in Iowa said they would vote for Sanders, while 40% said they would vote for the former secretary of state. Though Sanders’ edge is within the margin of error of 3.4 percentage points, Clinton led Sanders by double digits in Iowa in July. Averages of all polling in the state show Clinton with a quickly eroding lead that nevertheless remains in the double-digits.

...and check back in a month and she will be further down in the tank.

The truth is I'm lovin' it.

I figured he would, hoping that he would too. Clinton has too many questions about her past actions hanging over her head. I don't trust her.

I predict the next presidential race will be Sanders vs Trump.

I would how long Bernie would last as the president before a "mad lone gunman" took him out ??

Br Cornelius

That's what happens to all the good ones... Jesus Christ, Abraham Lincoln, Jack & Bobbie Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, John Lennon, Paul Wellstone...

The Rolling Stones even wrote a song about it:

Bernie Sanders is a reincarnation of George McGovern. That the Republicans may self-destruct with Trump this year means he could get elected. The Russians and Chinese and N. Koreans will be pleased.

I'd actually like Comrade Bernie to be in charge more then Hillary. If forced to vote for one, I'd chose Bernie. I'd never vote for either in real life though. I'd even vote Libertarian (shudder) before I voted for Bernie or Hillary.

Obviously, when I mentioned sexism on another thread, I uncorked a portal to some icky subreddit considering this sat untouched for a few days and then got slammed within minutes of p***ing off someone that really has women issues. The fact, this was okay and no one has said anything about it gives me pause here to.

I'm just trying to decide if I feel comfortable enough continuing here.

Which thread? There are some real pieces of work on here. I can even be one of them sometimes, but I like to think that I'm not as bad as all that. Don't take the idiots (including me) too seriously. After all, we all are only anonymous persons thousands of miles away with not enough to do (Otherwise we not have time for UM). :tu:

After some snooping around I see who you're talking about. He's not typical of people here.

To date, Donald Trump never mentions Bernie Sanders name in any speeches or interviews.... he'll go off on Hillary ad nauseam but never mutters Sanders at all.

It looks that Mrs. Clinton, out of her personal ambition, has created quite a problem for the Democrats. Her entry prevented anyone but an extremist who never expected to get anywhere from entering the campaign. She should have known she had too much baggage -- almost certainly did -- but went ahead anyway apparently hoping they could bury it. Now it looks the Democrats will nominate another (but worse) George McGovern -- the airhead's candidate.

Someone needs to come out of the mob to stand before its too late. I really don't like the idea of the Democrats running an un-electable extremist and pulling the entire party down and giving the Republicans four or more years of control, with their racism and homophobia and external adventurism and anti-science and polluting and general tight-assed approach.

The more I read about this Bernie Sanders guy the more I like him. I'd like to see Sanders versus Cruz actually (the American that's more Canadian (a social democrat... and Vermont is pretty much part of Canada anyways. They have the Canadian accent and they're heavily into maple syrup) vs. the Canadian that's more American (tea party guy born in Calgary that denounced his Canadian citizenship).

American politics is so much more interesting. We're halfway through the 11 week Canadian campaign and it's never been raised as a thread in this forum. The Aussie P.M. got his butt thrown out yesterday by his own party and no one here cares.

The Aussie turmoil has gotten a lot of coverage in the papers here.

Honourable mention here in Canada, but there's no thread here at UM devoted to it. I wonder if any of our American friends here even heard about it.

I thought that was going to be Biden's job. But he seems reluctant to step forward. No matter, he has till February to do so, and he'll immediately be in second, or maybe first, place.

I don't think Hillary is going to give up till she actually looses, so the Dem leadership will have to do something eventually unless her numbers turn around and her "trust" factor goes back to normal. Which neither of those things I think will happen. As the emails will keep coming out into next year from the State Department, and the FBI will not be done anytime soon, and neither will the Benghazi committee. She's a ship with a big hole below the waterline, but the captain refuses to turn back for port, but continues fishing hoping to haul in the big one, fighting on in total denial.

There are some people on here that have very conservative views, but not everyone does! I'm a proud feminist and 'bleeding heart liberal'.

I also support Bernie and don't think he's too extreme- I think he has some radical, but great ideas. Taking corporations out of politics, raising the taxes on the 1%, providing free healthcare and college like Nordic countries do, focusing on renewable energy, more worker and immigrant rights, stopping for-profit prisons, ending the war on drugs, helping minority populations and fighting for equal pay and the power to choose for women...

what's not to like, honestly?
