Tina or Mary? (poem)

i just went on my third date with tina

met her last month

we ordered the fourty dollar dinner

same as the first time

then two and a half days later

we had to say good-bye

i went back to mary

my wife

known her since middle school

six hours after that

i kissed her just like tina

and omg it was the best kiss ever

freaked out more

than the first time

even thought i'd die

of course it could be the difference

of a clean house or not

so instead of six different ways

we lit the fire a few more times

than that

that was yesterday

and so again tonight

i woke up mary

by surprise

to try again

these new learned ways

but nothing is so new

that hasn't been tried before

even once or twice by us too

we relit that fire

just a few more times

it was as if tina

had become a spirit or ghost

and if you could see them

you should know them by name

we all breathe in the dead

lining our lungs

hours later

flowers won't smell like flowers

air won't taste like air

is she still here?

taken possession of your soul

with her scent upon you

but baby

romance doesn't have to die

most people just have it all wrong

it always smolders

what everyone wants

is rekindled flames

sparks and crackles from a fireplace

just the two of us

surrounded by this beautiful life

we created in our minds

it is coming to pass

because we believed
