Fire destroys Jewish community center in eastern Paris

A fire destroyed a Jewish community center in eastern Paris overnight, authorities said Sunday.

France-Info radio reported that authorities suspected the fire was criminal in nature.

The report could not be immediately confirmed.

Israel Radio said in an unsourced report that pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic slogans had been found painted at the scene.

The fire destroyed the Jewish center but no one was hurt, firefighters said.

They were called to the scene at about 3:30 A.M. local time and had extinguished the flames by early morning.
