Still Waters Posted March 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2015 An arranged marriage groom was so upset when he saw his bride for the first time that he tried to drown himself. Kang Hu, 33, stunned guests, family and friends when he apologised to bride Na Sung, 30, telling her that she was 'too ugly' to marry. He then walked out of the wedding venue in the city of Shiyan in central China's Hubei province - and was later seen walking along the river, which he threw himself into. https://uk.news.yaho...60.html#T8g5io9

Lilly Posted March 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 29, 2015 Honestly, why would anyone ever agree to marry someone sight unseen? Also, not even knowing the person...they could be beautiful and a horrible person!

Paranormalcy Posted March 29, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 29, 2015 Isn't the point of arranged marriages that they don't have a choice? Or is there a kind where you do know, you just haven't met in person and can choose to not go through with it? I'm not up on this stuff.
Gromdor Posted March 29, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 29, 2015 There are a lot of benefits to an arranged marriage. (Besides a lower divorce rate) http://www.vishnusvirtues.com/arranged-marriage/ But it's more of an eastern culture thing.
She-ra Posted March 29, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 29, 2015 Arranged marriages, from what I know about them which isn't too much, are marriages arranged by family "elders" if you will between their children. The children can know each other and they could have met at some point. They don't have a "choice" in the marriage usually, maybe moreso now than in earlier days, but typically they do not have a choice in the matter. Or is there a kind where you do know, you just haven't met in person and can choose to not go through with it? I'm not up on this stuff. There is a show called "Arranged" on one of the TV stations..I think it's FYI network. There is also a show based on scientifically matching people that have never met before but matching them for marriage. The marriage matches are decided by a Sociologist, Sex Expert, Spiritualist and Psychiatrist based on something like 1,000 question interview and multiple meetings and interviews. The couples are then Married at first sight. The show follows the first year of this "social experiment". The first season 2 of the 3 couples remained married at the 6 month mark and 1 of those 2 couples went and got a vow renewal done (this couple actually had NO physical chemistry on the wedding day and looked to be one of the failures.) I found this show fascinating and followed it weekly. Was interesting!

What I was talking about was season 1 which you probably can find too): http://www.fyi.tv/sh...-at-first-sight I love learning new things too I hope this helps you! Edit to add: I saw a lot of season 1 stuff as I scrolled down so I think it's all there. Edited March 29, 2015 by She-ra

tcgram Posted March 29, 2015 #16 Share Posted March 29, 2015 It makes me wonder what kind of person he actually is, that he was unwilling to marry someone and get to know the person inside, instead of looking at the outward appearance. She may have a wonderful, loving personality and may have made him very happy.

She may have a wonderful, loving personality and may have made him very happy. Well, the article did say that he was worried about his image. So I'm going to say it's a safe bet to say his personality is shallow and superficial.
