Am I the only one who trusts in modern medicine? Besides the ice will melt eventually.

Im guessing its the same people freaking out over this, as the world killer black hole being created by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN back in 2008.

The main concern is that the lake could become contaminated (killing this bacteria, and other life down there) with the antifreeze that the Russians used to keep the bore hole from refreezing.

I still await the compelling Exhibit A.

Well the tardigrade can live in that environment, so we can expect other organisms to be there.

With all the junk science I've seen coming out of Russia lately it's hard for me to take this seriously. Time will tell.

Obviously im the only one who think Its more likely that modern bacterias will wipe that new found "lifeform" away. We should protect and preserve it.

I can't imagine how something that evolved to survive in that environment could be able to infect us.  Get real.

False alarm: Russia admits no new life form found in Antarctic lake

Quote

But the head of the genetics laboratory at the same institute said on Saturday that the strange life forms were in fact nothing but contaminants. "We found certain specimen, although not many. All of them were contaminants" that were brought there by the lab during research, Vladimir Korolyov told the Interfax news agency.

Many extremophile organisms have been discovered and none, so far as I can tell, have wrought havoc on their less specialized counterparts. I would think any organism from the lake would have trouble handling even moderately warm temperatures, just as an example, and might also find life difficult on the surface form solar radiation, high oxygen, etc.

No, no!  It's a cover up orchestrated by the Alien Shadow Government to hide the fact that They were here first.  It's part of the World Wide Conspiracy to keep us all in a mushroom-like state in regards to ... well, about everything.  Like what really happens at Groom Lake and why Hanger 18 at Wright-Patt was torn down.  And why Lucy kept pulling the football away from Charlie Brown.  It's symbolic, of course. like so much else in that strip.  Deeply symbolic of many things like the Holy Grail and why toast always lands butter side down.  Anyway, don't fall for that "only contaminants" line.  We know better.
