Ancient Visions of a 2012 Eclipse

Get ready for a full solar eclipse coming to your planet on November 13, 2012. This will be the final full eclipse of the current 13-baktun cycle of the Mayan Long Count, and that is just the beginning.

The significance of this event transcends even Mayan cosmology, in which, as we will see, it is deeply integrated, speaking to a unified planetary vision of natural cycles, harmonic mathemagics, and the opportunity for aradical cultural renewal.

Evidence for human interest in recording natural cycles goes back 35,000 years or more.

Weird thing is right, I'm sitting in my backyard having a coffee enjoying the morning awaiting this great eclipse to happen was pretty dismal about it because I was in centre of Cairns and "best view was Palm Cove and Port Douglas" < Super commercial high price beach areas :@. Anyways it was pretty cloudy and I noticed the sun came up directly past Yarrahbah, an aboriginal only comunity south of Cairns which has been in disgraceful state for quite some time and only just now starting to establish a local council again and getting back on track with humans :S. But to the weird point I since the clouds were out I decided to check google star maps just for kicks and noticed that the eclipse from where I was sitting happened dead centre of the star sign of Libra which I happened to be, about 10 seconds before the transitition the clouds parted from looked like to me about 5cm away from the sun and got an absolutely stunning view of it for the complete transition the scenary had a sence of erieness to it like artificial lights felt like the inside of a warehouse the first thing when you turn on the massive hallogens before the fully kick on.

there is a lunar eclipse on the 28th of Nov.. i was wiped out from the nov 13th one, i hope this one is more calming...

i never look at eclipses.. my Chinese qigong master always says "dont look at them, not good".. im not exactly sure what isnt so good about them? maybe it depends on how senstive you are??

The only time that the Sun can be viewed safely with the naked eye is during a total eclipse, when the Moon completely covers the disk of the Sun. It is never safe to look at a partial or annular eclipse, or the partial phases of a total solar eclipse, without the proper equipment and techniques. Even when 99% of the Sun's surface (the photosphere) is obscured during the partial phases of a solar eclipse, the remaining crescent Sun is still intense enough to cause a retinal burn, even though illumination levels are comparable to twilight [Chou, 1981, 1996; Marsh, 1982]. Failure to use proper observing methods may result in permanent eye damage or severe visual loss. This can have important adverse effects on career choices and earning potential, since it has been shown that most individuals who sustain eclipse-related eye injuries are children and young adults [Penner and McNair, 1966; Chou and Krailo, 1981].

The ancient Mayans also accurately predicted the transit of Venus this past June as it eclipsed the sun, exactly one half year ago from the upcoming 'doomsday date'. I used a welding mask to observe. It was cool and something that we won't see happen again for hundreds of years. The Mayan's were outstanding astronomers, although I believe we misinterpret their 'analysis' of the cosmos. The thirteen backtan just repeat themselves in cycle and the calendar starts over, every 5000 + years, just as it does in January while following the end of the year in December. Any true significance to prophecy has so far proved to be surely promotional theatrical potential in sales, just my opinion.

So many stories and so many different 'end of the world' case scenario's. This time, December 20th, while at the International Date Line, Venus will be 180 degrees opposite Mercury in reference to the Sun, as the Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and the other planets align with the star as well (center of the galaxy?). Still, now is this an indication to anything other than a great astronomical observation?... Calendars are based on timing of celestial events. The day is one revolution of the Earth, the year one orbit of the planet around the star... The twelve signs of the zodiac keep realigning their yearly involvement for observation... Point is, the Mayans had to start somewhere in sometime, obviously, while watching the night sky and building observatories to accurately record the movements. Nevertheless, can we believe every story and account just because it is written from history and translated like the old game called 'gossip', while in thousands of accounts and narrations by so many others generations later?

Fact or fiction, we can debate all we want? Let's just be realistic and admit that we will only truly find out when the time comes, and it is at hand.

If nothing happens, well, then there it is. If we're all crushed by a comet, well then, there it was. However, if this 'cosmic alignment' turns out to be the 'Beginning of a New Age', as the Earth's daily rotation and yearly orbit of the sun within our solar system variates greatly in respect to time, due to the suns change within its intergalactic orbital alignment, well, then we won't miss that either.

Science tells us that the length of the Earth day has changed before, and the difference in distance of potential from the sun as well, not to mention the moon (month and year as well). These orbital alignments effect time and gravity in respect to the forces of nature, from our pinpoint perspective, as we upon the Earth observe them as the day, month and year.

Could this be the 'foreseen prophecy', a change in time itself?

Like I said, we don't have long to wait and find out.

T - MINUS 5 DAYS AND COUNTING...

On that day look to the East my friends... tww
