Eldorado Posted July 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2014 Security is being tightened at airports with direct flights into the US - including some in the UK - in response to US warnings of a "credible threat". Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin confirmed the measures, saying they were being taken to protect the public. While he would not specify what steps would be involved, he ruled out "significant disruption" to passengers. It comes amid US media reports that al-Qaeda affiliates in Syria and Yemen are developing bombs to smuggle on planes. Wickian Posted July 3, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 3, 2014 Well, this 'sheep' intends to stay off airplanes (for a variety of reasons). Travel time aside, road trips are pretty fun rather than a few hours on a plane.
Space Commander Travis Posted July 3, 2014 #10 Share Posted July 3, 2014 Yeah! Nothing to worry about here The admiral sez so! If you want to be afraid, then by all means be so. Even if there was anything in it, really people lose all sense of proportion whenever anyone even mentions those magic words "Al- Qaedea Affiliates". How many of these Plots have we heard about that have either been Foiled (very often because they were set up by the Security Services in the first place as a sting), or of which there's been a Credible Threat of something or other. Remember all the farcical business about not being able to bring plastic bottles onto planes and all the rest of the silliness?

You may be confusing it with the liquids ban. Google Operation Overt for details.

Google Operation Overt for details. That's pedantry. the liquid in the bottles was what I was talking about. Anyway, Operation Overt? I love the way they always stick "Operation" in front of these ridiculous knee-jerk things. Makes them sound like Operation Overlord or something.

I post a polite correction and get accused of pedantry. Next time try posting more accurately then, or have the grace to admit an inaccuracy. And the comment about the naming of police operations is fairly contemptible.

Nothing came of those threats, right!
