If there's anything good about this storm, it's that the area of expected landfall is north of the folks already hit hard by this years massive flooding.

Another interesting thing to note is that this unusual storm is headed towards the deserts of interior Australia, which may not have seen rains like this in centuries.

I feel for QLD, first the flood and now a bloody Category 5 hurricane. All Vic had to deal with is a minor flood. We got off lucky I guess. This is beyond weird even for Australian standards. And seeing as this is a UM forum I kinda feel safe to say this but.

Bit of a stretch but it could be a new weapon that is being tested. To cause "natural" disasters. The only reason I head toward that direction is because of 2 major disasters happen in a few months to the same state.

I doubt this is a new type of weapon, there's an international moratorium on meterological weapons and something of this size would have been caught by someone. If you're interested in meterological weapons and conspiracy theories you should look up the 1952 Lynmouth Flood.

Lets hope this storm decreases in power rapidly after landfall; goodness knows how badly they'll cope after the first floods.

Here's a really nice colorized infrared [loop] from NOAA.

A monster arriving Down Under on [Groundhog Day - Feb. 2, 2011,] which is known of in meteorology as a "control day," is a clear warning in my view, for the Northern Hemisphere this year.

[Control day]—(Also called key day.) One of several days on which the weather is supposed (according to folklore) to provide the key for the weather of a subsequent period. The best-known of these days are in the United States, Groundhog Day (2 February.) - American Meteorological Society

Also, the latest satellite loop of this thing making landfall.

Ummm.. that video feed is now "offline"

Methinks Townsville has lost power, and all of its GMS Mobile Phone masts.

THATS how bad the storm is.

If you want to post a message expressing support and hope to the citizens of Queensland... there is a thread here

meow purr :)
