Im looking for a place to find free books on the paranormal and cryptozoology. Im a college student with no income and I cant afford to buy any books online. If anyone knows another way of getting more books or has some they would like to give me I would greatly appreciate it :)

I think if people find LEGITIMATELY *free* e-books on ANY paranormal subject, it would be a good and community-minded gesture to start or add its own thread also, so everyone could benefit from it - so if anyone DOES have knowledge of any such list of LEGAL books or resources, posting here for crypto would be good and it could be used for the independent list as well.

I remember a news story from a few years ago that people were leaving books they had read on park benches, bus stops etc for others to enjoy for free! I've never seen any though!

I think thats what bookcrossing.com is. My friend used to do it. It sounds really neat.

You could try your local library, if you don't mind giving the books back once you've read them!

Yeah, what about the library?

Have people forgotten about them? I bet your college has a sizable library as well.

theoccult.bz has a large collection of texts. Sadly no crypto books either though. Its more of a "magick" site with books about that, but they have hundreds of books on Astral Projection, books about the Romans/Greeks, Freemasonry, Philosophy, and a wide varieties of everything paranormal.

A good place to start is Freecycle. It's a yahoogroups-based network for people to give away usable items instead of having them go in the trash. Classified sites like Craig's list also have free stuff and wanted listings.

There are several bookswapping sites online too if you have ones yourself you no longer want. That often entails shipping though if something you want is non-local.

Another somewhat less reliable way would be to take up dumpster diving. (or make friends with a diver.)

I have a number of good paranormal books I've found this way.

Free is always preferable but don't overlook buying on the cheap. I rarely pay more than a quarter apiece for books at garage sales and library sales. Sometimes you can find freebies at these too, like magazines.

Try this one for size

For free ebooks check out scribd and sacred texts. Alternatively PM me with an area of interest as I have a ton of links that I struggle to get through. More mysteries than cryptozoology though.

oooh, snippers... ;D

You can download the ebook, Brain Chatter, Final Vaccination by Jeanine London, (yeah, that would be me) free at www.itsnanotime.com/book. I'm also blogging it here, with a little commentary tossed in...start at the bottom ^^^

Also, Maxwell Igan's Earth's Forbidden History, Part I at www.thecrowhouse.com/projects

Try not to remember anything you learn in college, OK?

Peace,

Jeanine

Ok, I've never heard of that before! What a cool idea! I signed up. I might register and start unloading my books this way! It actually sounds like a lot of fun too... you can watch your books travel all over from person to person who pick them up and read them and release them into the wild again. Neat! I'm surprised it's not more popular to be honest.

Project Gutenberg is the place where you can download over 33,000 free ebooks to read on your PC, iPad, Kindle, Sony Reader, iPhone, Android or other portable device.

Google scholar also has some links. I find it is a great place to start looking for a lot of things.

Astatalk also has a selection of books, tho I must say it is mostly crap. It is a good place to look for torrents tho, and asking in the thread of non fiction for the kinds of books you want people generally like to share.
