Fidel Castro was in high dudgeon last Tuesday. The U.S. mission is sticking it to the old tyrant with a 5-foot-tall ticker at the U.S. mission on which crawls the news of the world and quotations about human rights.

As he sent off the masses of Cubans to march past the mission in protest of the "cockroaches," the ticker flashed:

"Conservatives win elections in Canada."

Sweet.

Stephen Harper, an economist who came up in Canada's libertarian movement, is prime-minister designate. His party does not have a parliamentary majority, but it may be able to press forward with the conservative agenda because Canadians may be ready.

To wit: tax cuts, improving relations with the United States, more military spending and reforming Canada's broken-down public health-care system with private-sector solutions. The long waiting lines led Canada's top court to declare that the public health service kills people.

Prime Minster Paul Martin, a liberal, stepped down Tuesday after a campaign plagued by government scandal and awful miscues.

The coup de grace was delivered by Mr. Martin himself. After gang violence in Toronto killed an innocent teenaged girl, Martin decried Canada's "culture of exclusion." He would discuss the matter with minorities.

Mr. Harper talked about law and order -- something Canadians, wisely, wanted to hear.

Which leads us to say: Hail Canada, and welcome.

we were not right, we were just sick of the old guy.
the new guy is pretty shady as well. we voted for the less of two evils, and put a tight leash on him with a minority government, something americans might not be able to understand. i would think the righty that wrote that article is of the same ilk, "the coup de grace"????
it was not the definig moment , and mr harper did not only talk about "law and order" and he was not the only one to discuss such issues. worst article EVER. where did that come from????
don't hail us, we did what we did and we're not sure it was the right thing.

and canada is only slightly right, with a slight right minority government.

I think tis something like 48% of voters who voted Tory voted for a Change in Government not because they are Right wing. And if im correct only like 30% of the voters who voted Tory voted because they are right wing.

Martin had a minority goverment as well,l not much difference as to what Harper has now. Wait a couple of years and Harper will have the majority thumbsup.gif

It depends on how Harper does with his minority. If he plays his cards right he could easily win the next election with a majority.

Canada is not a right-wing country, we were just fed up of the Liberal scandals and corruption.

Just as many of us here in the U.S. are getting fed up with the Conservative (Republican) scandals and corruption.  The only way to go is with the middle of the roaders!  yes.gif

Our earth is degenerate in these latter days.  There are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end.  Bribery and corruption are common,   Children no longer obey their parents.  Every man wants to write a book, and the end of the world evidently is approaching.

It goes both ways. There are losers on either side, Liberals and Conservatives both.

Screw socialism. Higher taxes? Not. My paycheck is for me and mine. Also free enterprise encourages people to succeed. Only leeches want communism or socialism.
