Unemployment will stay high for years.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Record-low interest rates are still needed to energize the economic recovery, a Federal Reserve official said Tuesday.

Janet Yellen, head of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and President Barack Obama's top pick to be vice chair of the central bank, said the sluggish recovery she anticipates means unemployment will stay high for years.

The jobless rate -- now at 9.7 percent -- will dip only to 9.25 percent by the end of this year and then to 8 percent by the end of 2011, she predicted, calling the scenario a "very disappointing prospect."

Despite encouraging signs late last year, the housing market now "seems to have stalled," she observed in a speech delivered in Los Angeles.

Oh yes the voice of gloom and doom. We didn't expect this Aroces. The "Obama is going to kill us with the new health care system" didn't work so gotta find something don't you? Of course we are going to have a high unemployment rate for years. You can't just snap your fingers and create jobs. No one can. Unless they are jobs created through fraud like your Dubya did.

When you snap your fingers and spend a trillion dollars.... I'd expect at least 9%.... lol... Or is that too much to ask?

how many jobs are we deficient? how many were lost?

oh, wait.... but we saved 500 million people from losing their jobs... - Pelosi

You really think many still buy your Bush Fault after the fact that the Democrats led by Barney Frank were the one protecting Fannie Mae from those who foresaw it coming and tried to do someting about Sub Prime?

You have any clue how you look now? Not that you care.wink2.gif

Would be good if you read before opening the mouth.

Besides, Bush and some GOP been warning about Fannie Mae since 2003 and the Dem been blocking efforts to correct it.

If Bush wanted to stop this he would have. He did everything else he wanted to without worrying about what anyone else thought. It worked to his advantage so he didn't. Not that you care because you keep bragging about how you took advantage of stealing when it was legal. ;)

I am always astonished when I hear such things. It's funny how the Left's only defense of their people is "Your people did it, too!"

You're assuming I'm left? I'm an upper bracket tax paying gun owner. :D

I don't think I've ever seen you express a right-wing view.

What's a right-wing view?

Good for you, Nibs. But there are many non-Rightists who are "middle aged, gun-owning, higher income" and have children in the military.

Ah! But a "non-Rightist" is not the same as a "leftist".

I'm so middle of the road it's scary. I have strong opinions. Some "right" some "left".

On this one, Unemployment staying high for years, my opinion is middle of the road. It's been high on both shifts, right and left. One side doesn't get to shout "it's their fault".

Well, yes, but my point is that being middle aged, or making a lot of money, or owning a gun, or having a son/daughter in the military aren't really right-wing views. I suppose the only thing that's remotely right-wing there is that you're pro-gun.

From what I know of you, you're mostly center-left. But I'll know more about you in the coming months.

And then you will be crying abuse of power, Hitler, bah blah blah.

You saw the video all the effort made to try and do something about Sub Prime, while Barney with some Democrats insisting everything is fine. I bet you would have said then the GOP scare mongering again and stealing for the poor and does not want to help them buy a house.

Like I said, at the end the truth always comes out.

Good point. In the end the truth always comes out. Fortunately it's not the end. And the truth always makes more sense. If Bush wanted to stop this he would have. He didn't care about approval in anything else he did. All he did was put his own in positions so no one disagreed with him. Remember "You're either with us or you're a terrorist". And I never said anything about anyone buying anyone a house. I say everyone in this country who works should at least have enough to survive and they don't. I say we shouldn't feel like they are being held up at gunpoint when they receive a bill. I say no matter how rich and powerful people are they should not have a right to steal.

See, the Democrats game is blame others either they try to do something or not.

Now you see why I am very confident that its just a matter of time and the Democrats will do the same thing all over again, it's who they are.

Unemployment will remain high, Democrats does not know how to grow the economy with the market system.

Their core belief does not allow them to, it's that simple.

Don't give me that crap. All the market has done for years is steal from us for years. That's all they know. Fraud, covering up with false numbers, can only last so long. When you are not generating anything real you are bound to crash like the market, or big business did.

so since this current economy started after the great depression. what caused the great depression when our money was still backed by gold. no i will tell you, recessions and depressions happen? in this country they seem to happen about every 10 years. and usually the government gets the blame when in reality it is usually just part of the process. sometimes government policy will cause it but not everytime. and just so you know the great depression was caused by the end of ww1.
