Does This Describe a Scoundrel?

behavioralist

Recommended Posts

His nature was such that any witness, or even the sketchily reasoned possibility of a witness, compelled him to assume a carefully cultivated persona or public image; and so consummate was his histrionic skill that it consistently suspended any suspicion of dissimulated proclivities and the unwelcome emotions associated with them.

As far back as his memory could be induced to recollect no human being had ever seen or heard him except as he had elected to be perceived. And as pecuniary as his predilections ran, this monopoly on the awareness of his objectives did not constitute his loneliness, but rather the relief from it.

Are you talking about the ego??

The ego is a quality of all misled people. The person portrayed certainly misleads us. Do all misled people mislead people? Is ego the surrogate for inspiration, so that being led inspires while being misled synthesizes this perverse enthusiasm egotism?

The ego is a necessary component of good mental health as long as it is balanced by the id and superego. It isn't always a bad thing.
