I think I know what you are talking about. The Lusca is supposed to be an evil creature that lives in the blue holes of some tropical islands. They are said to take people and eat them. You might find a little more info here.

The article goes on to talk about the possibility of the Lusca being a freshwater octopus. And I think that in some other place, mention was made about it being a Tullimonstrum (or was that for something that drags people underwater in the American West?).

Anyway, hope this helps. original.gif

I have never heard the half shark part before. The Lusca are just giant octopi of the Carribean.

Man, a half shark half octopus is something too hard to imagine. And yes, I was talking about the shape. It's like a half cow half chicken. Anyway, as far as I know, the Lusca was indeed a globster of a giant octopus that was discoverd somewhere in Carribean (?) or Bahamas (?).

I've heard the stories of it being a new species of octopus or squid, but i have never heard of one being photographed or a carcass washing up anywhere. Anyone have any links or info if it has happened? thumbsup.gif
Science, my lad, is made up of mistakes, but they are mistakes which it is useful to make, because they lead little by little to the truth.

they just did an episode about this on destination truth they made it sound like some kind of big octopus that has been terrorizing ships and vacationers. They provided some good reasons why the octopus attacking ships with it's tentacles sounds kind of silly

  • A lie isn't a side of a story. It's just a lie.

I spoke to a bunch of fishermen about the lusca in the Bahamas and they didn't know what I was talking about, they did say that there is a giant fish that digs itself into the bottom of the ocean and eats people by merely opening its massive mouth and sucking them in when they swim over it, they said it was about 7 times the size of a man and almost completely circular, apparently you can see it's eyes poking out of the sand though and if you're smart you can avoid it. They seemed pretty certain it was real, elaborating to explain that it usually gets people who are fishing illegally at night. I suppose it's either just a tall tale to discourage dangerous illegal night fishing or some un-discovered species of ray.
