A couple of months ago I was sat in the kitchen with the door open waiting for a friend to come and pick up the tumble dryer he had lent us. It was about 9pm and dark, and I was sat doing a puzzle book, when I heard a noise and looked up. I saw what looked like a headless torso with arms, cut off just below the ribs, "running" across the garden from right to left on it's hands. From what I could see it looked like it had been in a fire, it looked like charred flesh, and I could hear it's "handfalls" as it travelled across the garden. I calmly got up and closed the door and waited for our friend to knock on the door.

I told hubby, and showed him a quick drawing of it and funnily enough he didn't believe me. That was until a couple of weeks later when we watched a program on the History Channel about preserved peat bog bodies.

http://www.mymultipl.../bogbodies.html - look at the picture of Oldcroghan Man
(second picture down)

I'm still not sure today whether I actually saw what I saw or just imagined it, but the fact I was wide awake, doing something that had no bearing on what I saw, and actually heard it moving across the garden makes me seriously wonder...

Has anyone else seen anything similar?

Thank God no. Pretty odd how you found a pic of an exact copy of what you have seen. I would have said you were looking for attention only for after about 30 or 40 posts you stop that kind of stuff lol. If you are from Ireland I wouldn't be suprised if you seen it, since that where they found the "corpse" in the pic on that link. If you don't then that's really weird and I have no idea what to tell you. Were you tired? Sleep deprived? Malnurished? Have you seen any other pictures of it before the happening? You may have imagined it ... but to imagine the vision and the audio is quite weird. I guess you need to get back on the meds laugh.gif j/k. I hope you can get some answers to this .... but maybe once you answer a few of the questions I asked you, some members with more knowledge of how the brain works will shed some light. I'm sure all of these things can have various effects on the brain, causing who knows what. Anyways ... Good luck.

It's ok I don't blame you for first thinking I was attention seeking, it's taken me until now to feel comfortable posting this for that very reason original.gif

I've thought long and hard about it and it's been many years since I last saw anything to do with "bog bodies" as it's not one of my particular areas of interest, and Oldcroghan man was only found in 2003, so I'm 100% certain I haven't seen it before. All I know about this particular body is from the web page I've linked to, as I'm afraid I didn't take much of the tv program in. (it took me ages to find a picture online as I hadn't even remembered the name of it lol) Although the dimensions are almost identical to the picture in the link, as I said before, the skin looked different, charred, not leathery.

I wasn't tired that I'm aware of, nor sleep deprived or malnourished. I could see it pretty clearly as the light from the kitchen was shining straight out of the back door and illuminating the part of the garden it crossed, around 6 - 8ft away from me. I am on medication, but I've never hallucinated before, and my meds haven't been changed for at least 12 months. If I was doing something at the time that involved reading/watching anything to do with the paranormal I'd understand it better, and somehow I doubt Sudoku would bring on a mental image of what I saw tongue.gif I also hadn't been drinking nor smoking anything dodgy. When I heard the noise and looked up I was expecting to see one of my cats moving through the grass.

Believe me I've been trying to find a logical explanation for it since it happened (beginning of June) posting on here was kind of a last resort.

Edit: I live in West Yorkshire, nowhere near Ireland

I've never seen anything like that...and I hope I never do!

I thought it was interesting that you didn't feel fear or shock. In fact you 'calmly got
up and closed the door.' Let's face it...that was a particularly scarey thing you saw/heard.
I wonder if you were in a bit of an altered state...due to doing the suduko...and getting
into it. This might explain your calmness......?

I don't tend to go straight into panic mode immediately. An off topic example is when I was cornered in a shop doorway by a man demanding money on my way to work at 7am one day, I didn't panic then either until he'd gone away, it was only afterwards I started thinking about what could have happened, if that makes sense?

Back on topic, I do remember thinking if I shut the door it'll be a barrier and probably a better idea than staying sat there with it wide open.

Wow, that's interesting. And I'm glad I haven't seen anything like it. But is there any possibility that it could have been an apparition of sorts? I remember reading once about a ghost in a hotel in the eastern US (either Alabama or New Orleans). It appears as a limbless torso without a head and makes a guttural moan. Anyway, by any chance did you smell anything?

i agree with Rosenrot (who has a really fantastic sword with roses on it thumbup.gif ) it may have been a apparition, otherwise it might even appear there every night at a specific time or every year who knows (residual haunting), maybe you should do some research of the area your living in maybe start with who has died in a fire. good luck original.gif

Interesting. I don't know what to think, but if I were you...I wouldn't sit with my door open anymore.

Thank you for all the replies.

I really couldn't say about it being an apparition or not, I wish I'd had the presence of mind to get up and look out immediately, but I guess that's just typical, we always have things we'd have done differently no matter what the situation. I didn't get any feeling of threat from it, either now or then, it just seemed to be intent on getting where it was going and didn't seem to notice me at all (thankfully) although I really don't know what I would have done if it had come towards me, probably hidden in a corner and screamed haha

I'd only moved into this house a few weeks before I saw it, so I couldn't tell you if it's a regular occurrance on a certain date. I do know from asking my neighbours that nothing has been seen regarding anything like this before. There are the usual ghost stories about phantom railways and women screaming in the night, but hubby and I have already debunked those. There's a freight train that runs around 2am about 3 miles away that creates the phantom train noise (we used to live nearer to this previously so we knew what it was when we heard it) and the screaming women, well, that's just women screaming LOL One thing I did find out that I wasn't aware of is apparantly the alley at the end of our garden next to the pub used to be the site of a railway track (hence the pub there being called The Station) but I've not found any clear references to this in historical records as yet, and this information was given to me by my next door neighbour who also believes implicitly that the train noises are paranormal, hence my use of the word apparantly. I'll be trying to find out more on the history of this immediate area in the next week or so.

I've taken a snapshot of my house from Google Earth and marked it to make it a bit clearer.
1: My house
2: Pub
3: Where it crossed the garden. Since this picture has been taken there's been a 5ft fence put up between the two houses, which I'm presuming it either jumped or passed through as I didn't see that part. I also didn't see what it did when it reached the fence/caravan at the other side.

I'll go out and take a couple of photos of the garden and add them in later.

Hmm, what you said about the railroad tracks near the pub got me thinking. By any chance was there a train wreck there? Because if there was I'm thinking that it might have been an apparition that reappeared on the night of the wreck. Either way, this is an interesting case and has drawn me in.

I still need to do research on that, but as soon as I get any information I'll let you know original.gif

I'll apologise in advance, but I'll need to post the next two in a separate post due to the file size, I tried making them smaller but they lose definition...

I forgot to add in the previous post, it ran across between the green chair and the fire-bed (we had the bonfire about a month after the sighting)

I know the fence is down at the back, so theoretically it could have entered and left that way, but I didn't see this, and it appeared to be heading straight for the fence on the left.

It's ok I understand. I may well have imagined it, but it was so real at the time, and I've already gone through the reasons I don't think I did. And as for lying *shrugs* I can't force you to believe me that I'm not, so I won't waste my time or yours original.gif
