I read about this in The Amityville Horror - Venetian Veils. From what I gathered from the book, it's a caul of skin that can be removed on a newborn child's face. Apparently those born with one have higher levels of clairvoyance than those without.

Anyone know anything about them?

A Grandma of mine told me that she was born with a 'caul' that is what we southerners call it. Supposedly, 95 years ago, it meant she had 'second site'. There are many beliefs of what it means...

I've a long passed great aunt born with the caul. My mother was the youngest child in her family, and she was told by her aunt, as a child, that her aunt was getting water from the well, a little way from their home. The aunt saw her mother walking. When she returned to the house, her mother had passed away.

Yeah this last post was 2 years ago. I'm actually trying to find out any information I can on them as .. life has progressed things have been strange. I was born with it, nuns were standing by offering to buy the veil off my mother, she just handed it over, was happy I was healthy.
Ummm... I dunno, not really getting into details but there's something going on with this and there's so few people born with it that I cant make any contact with others. 35 now, tried to ignore for a good 20 years but there's something strange that I cant explain in a post happening. Anyone with any links, I'd really appreciate it.

i work with someone who was born with a veil of skin over his face. he's never mentioned anything about clairvoyance, but he did ask me if i was born with one as i have bright blue eyes, and so does he. he reckons there's a link between bright blue eyes and veils.
on a slightly more gross note, he says his mother kept his veil and still has it in a drawer. be a bit crispy by now, i'd imagine. he's 53.

Stumbled across you post by accident but felt compelled to reply, even though it meant registering with this site,
I was born with a veil too, according to my researches only about one in a thousand people are.
However during a conversation with my best friend and my wife on this very subject we all discovered to our amazement that all three of us where born with a "Caul"
My friend now sadly deceased, was a successful academic, psychic and medium. My wife is a powerful white witch in the Druidic tradition and I was for some years an amateur psychic and paranormal investigator, medium and slightly prophetic.
It seems people born with this phenomenon are drawn together and aid one another please feel free to email mail me if you would like to discuss this further.

I think perhapse this urban legend could go into the metaphisics and phsicic phenomena threads. Perhapse I could encourage you to post on your individual experiences. My curiousity is salivating.

Apparently my birthmother had one of these. I don't know about clairvoyance or anything like that in her, though she was batshit crazy.

My dad seems to think I've had psychic moments myself, but I'm not sure about that. Haven't heard anything about myself being born with a caul, either. Then again, I never really asked.
