Classed as one of the worst serial killers we know he was prone to exaggeration. How many of any of the horrendous crimes he confessed to did he comit. Can we understand even why someone would confess to such atrocities if they wer enot incvolved?

I beleive Lucas only killed his girlfriend and the woman who was caring for her and maybe his mother. I think he knew he was getting life or DP for it so he started confessing to other crimes in order to stay his execution and get perks from the authorities. He was a pretty sick man, and an expert liar.

After he was convicted of the 8 murder's,he started to confess to more.Over 18months he raised the body count from 75 to 500 rolleyes.gif !So when he was convicted of the eight they also formally charged him with 30 more. With Lucas providing detail's "from memory",police in 35 states eventually decided that they could close their files on some 210 cases.

I doubt it was even 8, Lucas liked the fame he received, and the special treatment, the cops liked closing unsolved murder cases. Lucas knew that 2 murders or 500 he was spending the rest of his life in prison or getting DP.

He clearly did not commit the majority that he confessed to. He even had conflicting stories based on where he said he was at certain times.

Yes, there were a lot of gullible cops who were anxious to close cases and Henry Lucas liked all the attention. Plus, it got him out of his jail cell a lot, which he liked. LOL

Interestingly, his partner in crime, Otis Toole, claimed he killed John Walsh's (America's Most Wanted) son. I think that might be another case of a serial killer taking "credit" for something he didn't do.

Yes, but he was later discovered to be innocent of at least one of those murders, even though he'd confessed to it.

That's why his death sentence was commuted to life inprisonment. (He eventually died in custody.)

It's much more likely that the total number of his actual murder victims ran to between three and six (including his mother) rather than the hundreds to which he confessed.

Now why did Lucas confess to all those murders he'd not committed? It got his name and photo onto the front pages of newspapers all around the world.

That's usually attributed to Lucas' friend Ottis Toole.

But the really interesting thing here is that the notorious cannibal murderer Jeffry Dahmer seems to have been present at or very near the crime scene when young Adam was abducted.

Two pirate ships passing unknowing in the night or a genuinely evil conspiracy?
