The only time it will communicate with a human is during hunting time. They're like the gangsters or the Mafia, they have their own rules, their own world. We don't bother them, and only few of them bother us. Good deal, I think.

Well, as the TS said, the people are always after these whenever one attacks. Always to drive it away but not to kill it.

in 2006, January- I was invited as a spoke person for the National Historical Institute in the Philippines, more of a guest that a speaker, since all I did was give comments and ideas to local professors and educators. Then I was invited again at the University of the University for the same purpose. There I met Professor J.M. (I will hide his initials because that is the legal thing to do since I did not ask permission to mention his name in this letter) this fellow teaches and deans over at another university; Polytechnique University of the Philippines (PUP); the full six floor for the Arts Bachelor Of History was under his wing. (pls understand that I need to be limited in these information for legal reasons as well. This is where it all started.

After my appearance in PUP the good professor gave me a contract for 3 years to teach at both universities which he was greatly affiliated with which I delightfully signed, then he introduce me to the countries local history and folklore, he claims that in his own words "old world demons and monsters still exist". Naturally there was a small debate between us. Then out of my rumbunctiosness, I told him we should do an investigative study on that since he was so sure about this. It was a bluff because I got the idea that he was joking or simply testing my mantle as a professional. To my dismay it was not.

I went back to the states by Feb. to teach and file a leave with my university and by June I went back to teach in the Philippines. From June to August, I never heard of the investigative study that I proposed with professor J.M. In early September was when he approached me, I have already forgotten about it altogether, he said that we will do not need to go far for this little experiment, he said that it was within the next city, which he said was at least an hour drive away. I agreed. We would go to this residential house by 7:00 pm and would spend the night there. I was poorly prepared, I did not take him seriously, and he picked me up at my condominium unit with me carrying a lap top. in his SUV there were other people that I later learned as students in PUP and were Koreans. He gave us some papers to read regarding our subject, an "ASWANG". the paper included references from religious books and folklore. It was described on those texts and my impression was it was their local version of vampires and boogeyman crossbreed. It said that it had a taste for pregnant women, fetuses, old dying people, and babies. It was utter nonsense to me at first. we arrived at a residential subdivision in Quezon City; the village is strangely enough named. "TEACHER'S VILLAGE". it was near the U.P. and to note, U.P also has a village next to this one. the village name was given to it by a previous president Ferdinand Marcos to teachers. (the rest is history on this topic). The house was owned by a family of 3, they were well-off. it was a 1 floor house. their daughter was pregnant. A student of professor J.M. I never got the connection, nor did I understood why we stayed there, I just went along with what I presumed was a practical Joke by the Prof. Past around 11 pm we were discussing and sharing views about ancient beliefs in the supernatural and possible scientific explanation to this, the discussion was long, it was mostly a dialogue between me and the prof with the 2 Korean nodding heads once in a while, we spoke English most of the time because I do not understand the local language, Korean nor Filipino. The talks went on till 2 am. the professor was showing a video of cult practices and ethnical shamanism in the country, all historical and documentation in nature which he was incorporating to the topic which was the ASWANG.

Then it came, at 2am, the professor turned down the audio and demanded us to keep silent and to listen, he wanted us to hear. and we heard, to me it was a crowing of some sort of bird, like a giant crow or a macaw.
The professor said that it was the TIKTIK, he claims that to local folklore these were familiars (assistants) or accomplices to the ASWANG. I thought him crazy. then a loud crash on the roof top, then heavy footsteps, walking from here to there. it was a cat it need to weight an at least 100 lbs to make such a ruckus on galvanized iron roofing. it was walking from left to right, back and front, you could count the steps made which is unbelievable, it took only like 5 steps from the far left end of the roofing to the other end, compared to what I can do which is at least 20 long strides. and it took at lease 3 steps from back to front. me being a normal 6 feet American would do this with8 long strides. I wasn’t afraid, not yet. after a couple of more rounds of it walking around. we heard the most agonizing scratching that I ever heard, I imagine that it was trying to claw its way thru. if you run a blunt knife at a mirror, you multiply that sound3 folds. then it stopped. next was the most horrifying thing I had ever. The whole roof was booming! it was trying to pry the roof above our heads! and the roof, as galvanized as it shook to the core. I didn’t know what to think, it was no way possible. I was thinking this was a prank, over and over again. a few more hours the neighbors turned their houses lights on and went out to investigate with flash lights and butcher knifes and the likes, we could see them out the house. they were calling at the owner of the house with language I didn’t understand, but you’d pick up the word "Aswang" repeated. I didn’t realized I was afraid until I ran out of the house, I later found out that the Koreans ran with me and also professor J.M. There surrounded by the locals who were doing a not so bad English welcomed me and tried to explain the situation, they said that this has been going on for a week now as they noticed. by 4 the local cops arrived, tried to pacify everyone in the area, I kept quiet, (trust me, if you’re a foreigner in a foreign land it’s always best to keep quiet and let the locals do their business). I learned from the local informant people that this would be the 3rd report that they had connected to this house and incident, saying that it was first thought that a burglar was trying to get into the house. later that morning I checked the house and that’s when I found that the roof was galvanized G.I. steel. I also learned from the locals and their folklore that this was a common thing among houses that sheltered pregnant women, newly born, or old dying people.

I and Prof J.M. are in good terms, though im still not convinced regarding that incident about the Aswang. This is my last year here in the Philippines and I plan to do further research on this. I went back to Roanoke last May to bid my love ones and colleague goodbye.

You see the reason as to why I never made this official.
I went back last week to settle my finances with my bank. Obviously this endeavor that im working on is causing me great financial lost. Im have been researching, investigating this all over this country and has found nothing more than tell-tale signs, stories and folklore as good as the next town can offer.
If you know anything about this or has something to share, your hypothesis and comments is greatly appreciated.

By the way , the description of the noise and all , seems to be able to fit with what another cryptid , Giant Eagles , can do
Everyone has a right to be stupid but you my friend, are abusing it.

Well, I didn't know anyone would be interested in this. So here goes.

A tiktik is a bird that makes that sound when an Aswang is nearby.

A wakwak is a different being, said to roam the rice fields and forests. It is human-like beast, with a weird posture, where the head is between the legs, then chases people to eat them.

Aswang is a human who transforms into this flying giant beast that eats humans(sick,elderly,baby,pregnant/dying). Supposedly has a head of a dog or a wolf, hairy, can fly, has supernatural powers.

As a local, I've head of numerous accounts right here on our neighborhood. BTW, the Teachers Village is not that far away from ours, just an hour away.

My personal experience is when me and my cousin from the city where having a drink in our terrace. Our house was elevated since the neighborhood was once a vast, hill forest. It was around eleven, we were tipsy then but not drunk. From the terrace you could see the vast number of houses below. It was very dark, the night was very quiet, and there was not a bit of wind. I finished my bottle so I made fun of him by scaring him, telling him ghost stories about our place. Then I stopped because this scary feeling came over me. My cousin also stopped laughing, I could see in his face he felt it too. Then the silence of the night was broken by the barking of dogs from far away. The barkings was from our far right, then the barks kept coming closer and closer to us, making a half circle towards us, at a very fast rate, until it got so close my cousin jumped of the chair and ran into our house. (Its funny how city people say these things aren't real, but then something happens and they run away like children.) It was a very scary feeling, but I waited a few moments where the barkings stopped a few houses away from ours before I myself ran inside.

There are many story about sightings, like the loud scratchings and walking sounds on the roofs. There is one particular story about an aswang attack in our neighborhood that is true that even the police know about this, since they were the ones who found the body the next morning. What happened was there was a woman, I can't remember if she was pregnant. She was walking in the middle of the night, then she started screaming "ASWANG! ASWANG!" and shouted for help. But the screech of the Aswang was much louder, which of course horrified the people. That is why they did nothing. All through the night they could hear the young woman's screams, until finally it stopped. The relatives of the woman moved away, and then no one talked about this unless asked.

Also, there was an incident last year in Sapang Palay(Swamp Fields) about a couple of kids playing under a mango tree around dusk, when suddenly a big creature from the top of a tree swooped down, grabbed a child, then flew away. The news spread, until finally a TV show investigated it, they were said to be psychics doing psychic stuff to haunted places, telling the stories, then trying to exorcise them away. So these paranormal crew visited the rural area. There was a crowd where they parked, and as soon as they came out of the van, you could see through their faces they were scared like hell. A couple of walks and interviews to the kids then the Head of the psychics called their crew to leave and drove away fast. After a few kilometers away, the leader explained that he had spoken to the leader of the Aswang telephatically, explaining why one of them took a child. They eat humans only on their rituals and festivals, and defended that if humans ate pigs and cows, why was it wrong that they ate humans. The leader explained that the reason he fled was because there were a number of aswangs hiding behind the crowd, and that he was only concerned for his crew, since it was getting dark. That village is thirty minutes away from our house.

Another show featured another alleged aswang family in the famous Siquijor. The host was in the pulic market asking questions, and since he was famous, he was crowded by fans. The people were mostly telling stories, not details, and when one was about to spill, everyone went silent as a lamb. The host was confused at the silence, so one farmer whispered to him, "One of them is watching us." The camera looked around for suspicious people and found no one. At the end of the show, they showed the supposed house of the aswang family.

For anyone who is looking for any research or interviews about Aswangs, there was a thesis conducted by an undgrad student from LaSalle University. The story goes that there was a man with his daughter living in a hut deep in the secluded forest(I forgot where) almost a hundred years ago. I also forgot the details but what happened was the father after finding out his daughter was an aswang, he drew his bolo(large dagger or small sword) and struck her in the neck. Now, the interviewer visited the hut and found a young girl living there. The student asked her permission for an interview, she said it was okay. Recorded on a tape, the girl told the story of about her father, explaining how she got her scar on her neck. When the student realized this, he quickly finished the interview and left just before nightfall. When he presented his thesis to the panel, everyone was shocked, except the student, to hear the low barking of a dog after every question of the student.

Another interesting story I heard was about a man in the Northern province. The man's wife left him and went to the mountains without saying why. So the husband asked his wife's relative to follow her. So the relative guided him to the mountains into a cave deep in the Northern Mountains. Inside the cave there was a deep and dark hole where a large and old rope lay hanging. Both of them climbed down the rope. The man was shocked to see a large village underground, and there seemed to be a festival. He found his wife there, along with many people who was said to have weird faces, especially the eyes. Seeing the place, the man realized what she was and where he had gone into. The story goes that the wife asked him if he would like to stay with her, the man said no. But the man asked if she would stay with him above, she said yes. The wife's father objected at first but later agreed at the condition that the man would bring pigs every once in a while to the guide. The man agreed and was then taken up along with his wife.

A warning to those who seek the Aswangs. They alwaysknow when someone is looking for them. That is how they survived. It's all about learning how to co-exist.

That could be the reason they are very elusive. I love your country by the way.

Yes, all their stories does have gruesomeness factor.

I have been to LaSalle University, its is very big and impresive. most of the students there belong to the upper class of society, somewhat around block for international schools like Brent. Interesting that the higher social class of people had interest on this topic. I saw a lot of thesis about the supernatural from the U.P and P.U.P where i am currently teaching. most are very bizzar while some are just copied or referrenced from books. im currently dating a professor there, i should bring this up with her, she might be able to help me on this.

I wanted to see if the local Police have record about this type of incidents, but i have yet to try to approach them with the concept. im affraid that it would really be awkward if they saw a foreigner asking them about it. of even worse is i might get myself in trouble. To add to that, the copy or the court case that i paid for has yet to arrived, its almost a month now and i have yet to receive word from the lawyer that i paid to extract me the copy.

i have heard about Siquijor, i plan to visit that as soon as i sum up enough funds for the travel and lodging. I am a bit interested to see the world war 2 artifact left in Bataan also.

Thank you for your insight in the subject, it did help. My little wild goose chase has proved educational and very very expensive.

Is it possible to meet one and make peace w/ it? Maybe even become a friend?

Are they born like that, or were they human once?

Do you know any anti aswang stuff?

Lol, are any of you an aswang?

Im not sure if a prey could make peace with its predator, as it seems that humans are included in its diet. Im not very much confortable with the idea of having a friend that could eat me.

There is a diversity about the lore on where they come from. Some would say they were born like that, while others say that its a "curse" inherited from a bloodline. But the notable thing about the lore is, unlike vampire lore, it doesnt seem to be contagious, maybe because no one has yet to live or survive an attack??

On the Anti Aswang topic, youd be amazed that garlic would be included in the list! There are some things considered to ward them off like amulets or religious items. And yes, they can be ward of by sharp bolo's, swords, knife, guns, its not easy to imagine why not, i mean id be ward off these elements!

LOL.. now that is amazingly funny. Who knows, maybe there is one out there.. Watching, reading. A scarry idea, If i didnt hide my identity i wonder if one would stalk me? Now that is frightening.. im glad i did hide my identity! Well if anyone outhere is one, i hope they would post. id love to do an indirect interview, not that im excited to do a one on one.

You know, that's an interesting view. I also noticed that news report of these incidents, and believe me there are news reports on this, has a sort of chronological order in them, like a annual distance of sort, most of the time news about them would be abundant during times of social and financial crissis in the country...facinating view you have there.

That would mean more work for me though. i have to start charting this pretty soon.

thank you again for this very interesting point.

Ah, the police officers. They would have very valuable info about these creatures, especially the local ones where aswangs are said to reside, since only they can offer them protection. There are many times the police caught aswangs. I head there was an aswang caught by the police and was imprisoned in the mountains, since killing one is against their truce.

There was a story that they were descendants from an old civilization where the Philippines was once a part of. That is why there are many shamans and occult learnings here. The records of the true history of this country is in their hands.

Just a warning to you, sir.

They are not animals that you can watch from a distance for information. These are real beings that have kept their identities a secret for generations. An aswang murder is very common here, and very much ignored when it comes to police investigations. They can find you with your thoughts alone, and if you come to close, you better pray you have an open window that leads to the public safety area.

I paid a great amount of "ransom" to a lawyer to extract me a copy of the reocrds that said that there was one recorded trial in a provincial court. its about a month now and i still have yet to see the paper. Yes i aggree that local police would have information i need, i should have considered that idea earlier, it could have same me time and money. I sure hope that there are record of them cathing one.

Did you say "truce"?????... as in a pact or an agreement? I dont know anything about that, i can't imagine how something like that would be possible, well mind my ignorance since i am not from this country. just the idea of it is mindbogling already.

I have yet to come upon a story or a book, even as fancy as it would be, that says they are from an older civilization or that this country was from an ancient civilization. But the country does have a rich history and progressive motion when it comes to its civilization. from migration of aborigin like peolpe to other neighboring asian settlers. But yes shamanism and occult is abundant in your country. The notion of that the "the true history of this country is in their hands." is very intriguing, thoug i have no grounds to support you claim. maybe you could reffere to such? guide me perhaps.

Thank you for the warning. I will keep that in mind. Besides, like i admit, i am already pass my prime, and i really dont think i have that much time in this world anyways, there is a reason why we should never had invented cigars and cigarets, so beeing killed by a supernatural predator would be one less thing to worry. But chances are, i'd piss on jhonnies if i saw one face to face.

I think only the people in the provinces know the true stories of aswangs..my grandma says they are really true
Like in Capiz (province in the Phil), it is rumored full of aswangs so better have a trip there

News

Boy survives 'aswang' attack

THE "aswang," a creature that eats human flesh, may be brushed off as a creature of Filipino folklore and a product of the imagination in the olden days, but for a 16-year-old boy in Tantangan, South Cotabato, it is real.

Tata Porras, 16, of Barangay Cabuling in Tantangan, claimed his 14-year-old brother Michael was attacked by an aswang, which he claimed was disguised as a big black dog with red, glowering eyes.

Porras' descriptions aptly fit the physical appearance of the supernatural being who has the ability to transform itself into different forms while devouring a prey.

He claimed that he and his younger brother were sleeping in a small makeshift hut near their ricefield on the evening of September 22, guarding their farm ducks, when the incident happened.

The boys' parents were sleeping in their house just a few meters away from the ricefield.

"Aswang talaga ang nakita ko," Tata said, adding that the big black dog about three feet-high was about to bite the neck of his younger brother when he saw it.

"Nang kakagatin na niya ang kapatid ko, kinuha ko kaagad ang nakatago naming single shot na baril at binaril ko ang aswang (When I saw the 'aswang' about to bite my younger brother, I grabbed our single shot rifle and I shoot the 'aswang')," Tata said.

He said the "aswang" fled and was lost in the dark.

Prior to the alleged attack, Tata said he heard a squeaking sound outside the makeshift hut.

"Papalayo sa tinutulugan naming dalawa yung ingay," the boy said.

Michael was hit in his right leg when Tata fired the shot at the aswang. He was immediately brought to the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital (SCPH) for medical treatment.

Neighbors who rushed to the boys' location reported hearing Tata shouting, "aswang, aswang!" while pointing to a dark portion of the ricefields.

A local radio station carried the story on air, but some residents refused to believe the story, brushing this off a figment of the boy's imagination.

Others however believe it, citing personal accounts and stories they heard from their friends and relatives living in the allegedly aswang-infested localities in southern Philippines.

Based on the Filipino superstitious beliefs, the usual targets of the aswang are pregnant women and young children. It usually attacks on or before midnight.

Here's a link to a supposed cry for help of an aswang who's sister was murdered. You could contact this person because he interviewed the said aswang personally.

Communicate, as in "I'm-about-to-eat-you-that's-why-I'm-chatting" or just plain "Hello-I'm-going-hunting-isn't-that-cool?" And if this is so, then it would definitely be impossible to befriend one? Thanks for the information, by the way.

The dog thing is true, it's a shape shifter. It can take the shape of any animal, especially dogs. The way you can tell that an animal or person your interacting with is an aswang is that. When you look into it's eyes, your reflection is upside down.

As for the Tata kid, he could of just made up that story in an attempt to cover up the fact that he was playing with that gun. Then he accidentally shot his brother. In his horror, he made up a story about the aswang.

That picture is fake, they never come out during the day time. They sleep then, because the sun is irritating to them. That's about as fake as somebody saying Barny isn't a pedophile.
Damn! He got my cookies again.
Damn you Clause!
DAMN YOU!!!
