I was just notified that I won $50 denaros because my essay was chosen as runner-up in a "Soul Shelter" essay contest.

Hey, man, 50 bucks is 50 bucks. (And then there's the glory and fame).

It's the first time I have ever entered a writing contests, despite making my living as a writer for the past 20 years. I've never been much for contests -- well, obviously.

You are all gracious, as usual.

Now that I have bagged the covented 'runner-up' and full $50 prize -- my next goal is nothing less than winning the Nobel Prize for Literature.

My upcomng novel, "Beer Drinking and Hell Raising Astronomers from Borneo" should be a shoe-in for the Nobel!!!!!!

If all here will meet me at the Prince Albert pub in Stroud, England, on Oct. 18 I will buy all UM members present a pint!! Be prepared to submit your UM Membership ID Card to claim your drink -- and/or -- greet me with the "secret UM handshake" to identify yourself as a member of the UM "Special Inner Cabal."

(Offer is also good for all those with a UM tattoo on any part of their anatomy, no matter how private the location, and actually, the more private the location of your tattoo, the better).

Good job!!! I have entered poetry and essay contests and have never once won.
