Hmm... this would seem to indicate that you've never listened to Pearl Jam? And certainly don't listen to them currently? and don't know anything about their problems with major record lables?

Pearl Jam is ok... they've at least held on to their roots, while evolving as well. I can respect them for that. I liked Mother Love Bone (which is more or less where Pearl Jam came from) but I've never been wild about Vedder. I've seen PJ three times live, and they were only good once. The other two times had Vedder stumbling, slurring, and falling all over the stage. (and wouldn't you know it, the only show I saw them do that was great, was a free show for MTV's Rock the Vote in Magnuson Beach WA. And I will admit, they did rock it and the whole band was outrageously good... they were such a dissapointment later on)

funny because that wasn't even george's riff in the first place. he got sued by the chiffons, i believe

anyways, the whole nirvana song build up and heavy part was a minutemen ripoff.

i agree that riffs constantly get recycled but when the whole song structured is ripped off, it becomes a different story

I said that, the line under Oasis ripping off Harrison.

Quote

Oasis ripped off My Sweet Lord by George Harrison in their song Supersonic
George Harrison ripped off He's So Fine by Chiffons in his song My Sweet Lord

I don't know that I'd say that... they were heavily influenced by other club bands from the same era, club band they wanted to emmulate... Melvins who'd already had moderate success (and from the same hometown), and most certainly they were heavily influenced by MudHoney and Screaming Trees for sure.

I like their cover for Man Who Sold the World.

But I don't really like them overall. I used to like them a lot.

Side note: Gorgoroth would eat them for breakfast. original.gif

i would say it because it's an exact ripoff. i think the song is "one big lounge scene" i know it's one of the minutemen's earlier songs.

Pfft. I've heard two cats with their tails tied together fighting over a clothes line, too, and would far prefer it to Pearl Jam, past present or future. I'm inclined to think their problems with major labels is purely fictional; if they had that kind of legitimate problem they could always sign onto an Indie label, presuming of course that any Indie label would sign them (hah!).

I used to own their last 3 CD's (nevermind, in utero, and unplugged) but listened too them too much in the 90's. Traded them in at the used CD record store.
Getting old, I guess. I hear the hit singles enough on the "nu-metal" radio stations.

I still have some respect for them as a band. Some of their album cuts and B-sides were incoherent and self-indulgent, though

Used to own (briefly) Vitology. Don't remember a whole lot of that CD - traded it in like the others.
When I go to heaven, I hope to find out if all the people I gave directions to made it to their destination.

Like I said, I'm not much of a PJ fan... they just aren't my thing... but out of curiousity, I started seaching Youtube to see if there was any live footage from the MTV Rock the Vote concert that I went to in Seattle in 1992. And sure enough, there IS! Just one vid it looks like; yet MTV broadcasted much of that show live, and there were all kinds of booms, mics and crew around, and part of the reason most of that footage was never seen again was because of PJ's problem with record lables.

This footage must have been shot just a few feet where I was standing (right in front of the mixing board scaffold). this was a GREAT show (Cypress Hill opened for 'em)... and that is one mosh pit from hell. LOL.

I have no idea what song this is, or if this is just something freeform... like I said, I'm not and have never been much of a PJ fan... but this vid brought back good Seattle Grunge memories for me. rofl.gif (Vedder also made several, what I thought at the time as tasteless references to Andrew Wood during that show, one of which you hear in this clip... strange, but probably his way of making a Public Service announcement)

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=h233RL7goWQ

But as far as Nirvana goes? Honestly, I can't remember if they ever even played Seattle... I'm not sure I even know of anyone who'd seen them live in an actual produced show where you had to buy a ticket. That's just so bizarre.

Ya, I noticed that when I went back to the page after I posted. LOL.

This was a very good show. I'd love to MTV to release the footage I'm sure they have, but I don't think it's really ever seen the light of day since the day it aired. And, unfortunately it was 1992, we were still trying to figure out how to get our VCR's to stop flashing 12:00 ... LOL.

Ah, 1992. I was only 6 laugh.gif , the only memory I have of being that age were my birthday party and Leeds United winning the title (dirty Leeds disgust.gif ). I've only ever heard one Pearl Jam song, Alive, and I love it. In fact I don't want to hear another PJ song because it might sour my opinion of them. As long as I only know Alive, they get the tumbs up.
