I'm bipolar. I definitely consider it a disorder because when I don't take my medication my brain doesn't work as well. It's not like my personality changes-- things simply don't work. It's like wearing corrective eyeglasses. When you first put the right pair on you don't think, "Oh, the world looks different". You think, "Oh great. Now I can see better". It's immediately obvious that one state is more accurate than the other. There's something within us that intuitively recognizes health.
