this so sounds like the concept of the NWO. Didn't the original comic book talk about ozy creating a fake alien agenda to bring mankind together?

I got a similar vibe from it too. But I didn't like the movie, I haven't read the book or comics, and found it hard to keep up with. There were many things in the movie that left me scratching my head. I thought it was almost just an excuse for violence and stretched sex scenes. Once again I haven't read the book or comic, so maybe you can only appreciate the movie if you have.

Many of my friends who seen the movie liked it more then not and they never read the GN.

I'm happy for your friends. I thought it was crap, my opinion. You can choose to think anyone who didn't like it is short of a quid.

Soo... I thought I'd bring this thread back, in hopes of discussing the novel, movie, whatever. Just because the film came and went doesn't mean discussion has to stop on this superior collection of ideas forming a wonderful graphic novel.

Um... that being said, is anyone else frustrated with the fandom this film created for the franchise? 15 year old girls writing fanfiction (namely slash) need to just DIE already! ALso, there are some very talented artists on deviantart and I was flipping through it, and peppered throughout the quality work was all this friggin' anime Dan/Rorshach stuff. GAH. I mean, what the hell.

Also, I really liked the "mockumentry" Under the Hood. Some of it was under the top, but it was almost all Hollis (which it should have been) so yay ! Black Freighter was pretty good too original.gif
Fill your bowl to the brim and it will spill. Keep sharpening your knife and it will blunt. Chase after money and security and your heart will never unclench. Care about people's approval and you will be their prisoner.

Do your work, then step back. The only path to
serenity.

All the Watchmen energy will die down soon...

As for doing art based on comics and movies I do it from time to time.

For those who want to see people trying to be watchmen in real life check out the World Superhero Registry. These people have balls if they are going out trying to stop crime.

The topic of people acting as super-heroes in real life isn't too surprising for me. I think it's great. Just don't get caught. Because the 'bad guys' will ****ing kill you. You can't play it like Batman... no casualties... life doesn't work like that.

And I didn't condone artwork based off of comics and the like. I was saying slashy anime based on Watchmen is bad. Although some of the Adrian "slash" stuff is cute... only because it's poignant.

Can't play it like Batman indeed... I would sooner play it like Rorschach or The Comedian and utilize partners and lethal weapons.

Yeah... Anime based on western art isn't my thing either and it's to easy to draw... It's a shame people can't be original anymore.

It's not even a point of being original... it's that people want, need and CRAVE to be known for any little peice of crap thing they may do in life. Take the 'facebook status' thing... people update that thing constantly because people apparently need to know every second of every day what another person is doing. Take some fanfiction... people used to fantasize about these things, these plots, and change them on a whime for themselves... but no, now they need other people to read it and react, to feed their egos. Same can be applied to this rediculous 'Watchmen anime'. People, in particularily young adults, these days are pathetic in that way. Youtube is something that spurrs it on.

When it comes to Facebook I only use my status thing to post wisecracks or what's going on with the baby on the way etc for family.

Essentially what it boils down to in so many words then is that instead of applying talent to express themselves and simply make 'art' for the sheer pleasure of it they are doing it simply to gain notoriety....

When it comes to ego I will admit I have one and most artists who can make money do... Being commissioned by a rich fanboy 2 months ago to air brush a recreation of the Dr. Manhattan scene from Mars when he first got there, on his computer room wall which took about a week to finish earned me $15,000. It's kinda difficult being in this position to remain down to Earth and level headed.

For the record though art is not my career just a hobby, he seen my work in a local gallery and sought me out.

I don't think for all these kids it's about feeding ego, for many of them they may simply want to share their creations with other people. I could be wrong I have never even been to deviant art since my work primarily is 99% non CG and to large to scan.
