It was addressed though in the comics. He said he we are all puppets, he's just a puppet who could see the strings and played his role. He may be god like but he's still defined by the already written future that he's going along with. Manhattan on the warpath would be unstoppable seemly. How can the world join together for the better future if they're joining together just to die? And there are still the limitations he puts on himself despite falling away from humanity. He still was pushing humanity forward with his mind and inventions. So it wouldn't make much sense for him to go all evil out and mass slaughter us.

A robot or something else might have worked if it could achieve the same level of terror and fear that the squid thing did but then there's a matter of where it came from and how it could shape the human condition. If it was just another human creation or disease, the world wouldn't really join together for a common goal. An alien attack with such a magnitude achieved that.

Well the paper is known for it's non-PC ways and they're really going to print anything. They're like the extreme FOX news of today. tongue.gif It would have been a conspiracy but it would have left questions to be answered and a trail to follow. As for his handwriting, the journal he carried around was just a draft, he rewrote everything in his main journal which he sent in before he left. I think it was left to the very last page for that reason.

Dr. Manhattan won't be doing the destruction himself, Ozy will be faking a Dr. Manhattan attack. The populace would believe the attack because Manhattan was 'outted' earlier and already had an outburst. Of course it won't have the same exact impact but what I'm saying is that it still covers the main point no matter what fake attack they want to use. Ozy still fakes an attack that ends up uniting the world, everyone wonders if it will last, Rorschach would still not compromise and die, Manhattan would still leave the galaxy and deliver the 'it never ends line', etc, etc.

But there isn't much of a trail to follow considering all who participated or know are either dead or keeping their mouths shut. I could see it ending up as a JFK assassination theory at most and a fake moon landing theory at worst...that is if journal got out to begin with.

I am half skeptic and half believer, I have all of their strengths and none of their weaknesses.

Ohhhhhh... I could see that then somewhat. ph34r.gif

Maybe but it's still giving people a lot of questions. All those missing people and the fact he'd never be seen again.

You're supposed to when you discuss a movie or show if the post contains information that the general public may not know. It's common etiquette in media entertainment threads.

For example, in last night's Lost episode Ben killed Locke.

Not everyone will have seen the last episode yet so you put it in spoiler brackets to keep from ruining for those people.

Here's a spoiler for you guys... and I'm not even nice enough to rub it out... so hold on to your hats... look away if you must... get the children out of the room...

IT'S GOING TO SUCK!

I am enjoying all the memoribilia and re-releasing of the graphic novel right now, though. Can always look to a movie to hype things up over proportionally. Bookstores and comic shops are brimming with copies of the graphic novel. Me and my boyfriend, of course, are going to be there on opening night at our theatre. The bf has hope... I do not. Moore's work is always raped when in movie-form.
Fill your bowl to the brim and it will spill. Keep sharpening your knife and it will blunt. Chase after money and security and your heart will never unclench. Care about people's approval and you will be their prisoner.

Do your work, then step back. The only path to
serenity.

It looks awesome but I disagree with the 'most celebrated graphic novel of all time' quote in some of the trailers...

And what, exactly, do you think is better? And where is your proof? Beyond your own opinions. Watchmen got a Hugo... A HUGO!

Hopefully it won't. From the article I posted earlier they're not going to try to leave out much and hopefully it'll smooth out. Moore isn't happy with this either so hopefully this time they'll prove him that they're not screwing it up too bad.

Haha... I know this family that's going to be taking their young children to see the film. I warned them of the sort of contents that would be in it and they didn't believe me because "it's just another super hero movie." Those kids will be scarred for life. devil.gif

What missing people? It still would have the same number of missing people and deaths as the book(minus the artists and scientists maybe). The general populace wouldn't know if Manhattan is coming back for a second attack or not so they would keep scarred, just as they didn't know if the squid would return or not. As for the conspiracy...nobody would even think of it without Rorschach's journal, which even then is a crazy criminal's diary. If it is unraveled through the journal by the time it was it wouldn't matter....kind of like if we proved a JFK conspiracy today.

laugh.gif From some of the reviews I've read, those kids are in for an eye full.

The artists and scientists that he mentioned in his journal. There would have to be questions in regards to that along with the why he was going down there at the same time of the attack.

As for the attack, I still think the squid would be better because of it's alien background theory.

Maybe, but it'll still put cracks in the utopia he wanted to create.

There always were some big flaws in Ozy's 'master plan'. He killed the Comedian which put Rorschach on the trail but for some reason had Rorschach arrested and not killed. And the fact that Niteowl figured out his oh see easy password to his computer and accessed the plan's files that were barely even hidden.

The only person there would be to question would be Ozy because everyone else in hiding or dead, and I think Ozy destroyed the artic base or something didn't he?. The artists and scientists went missing awhile ago, so from a police investigation point of view they could have just as easily bin murdered as have bin apart of a grand master scheme. There isn't much of a trail to follow, assuming anybody would want to follow it in the first place. Of course the end is sopose to be open ended like that but imo the journal doesn't necessarily blow the lid on the whole thing. It would bee a hard conspiracy for anyone to believe if you think about. A crazed criminal's idea that the smartest man on the planet and owner of a giant business kidnaps and kills a bunch of people and genetically engineers a giant teleporting alien squid in hopes of saving the world?

His utopia was an inherently flawed idea anyways which became evident by Manhattan's ending quote "Nothing ever ends". One of the other big questions is(even without the journal) if the peace would actually last.

Well, we all know that everybody and their uncle will see this movie this weekend... It's as much of a slam dunk as Hollywood can make... And it does look good and very faithful to the source.... But I will withhold judgement until after I see it as to it's actual good/bad rating...

I got five and a half hours till the midnight showing but the reviews from critics were somewhat mixed. It seemed everybody who read the book loved the film but for people who didn't they had issues. Common criticism is pacing issues, acting performances, narrative, and the musical score. With non fan criticism ranging from too long, too dark, too surreal, too complicated. Last time i heard its somewhere in 70 on rottentomatoes and related sites(which is good because even award winning movies like Gladiator don't get past the 70s)
