You're joking, right? It's not the hype. It's the content. Sure, the hype is rediculous and these young girls really need a dose of reality, but on the other hand, the author's writing really sucks. My sister is in love with the books, so I had the... ahem, privilege of flipping through it. I knew in advance I'd never want to read it, but I thought I'd just read the first page.
SO BAD. So I kinda just went through several more pages in the books and OH MY LORD! How anyone can read it is beyond me. I find her vocabulary completely uninspired and what I read was just... uninteresting. And of course I've had the plot and a few ideas behind it explained to me by my poor, well-meaning sister, and that just made it worse. The children who read it just want to be wisked away by that main idiot... Argh.

I haven't read the books. But I thought the movie was really good. I watched it a couple times when I rented it. If you are a fan of Vampire movies you will know there are some god awful ones out there. Barely even B movies. But this movie had beautiful cinematography, the acting was believable (not the best choice for female IMO) the music was perfect, I grant you the special effects weren't the best I have seen but they worked in the film. The writer might suck but the director didn't.
Some people have an aversion to anything approved by pop culture. I am not one of those people, I only have an aversion to bad art.

I saw the previews, and the girl that plays the lead character looks like she is stoned out of her mind all the time, she looks like the most depressing thing I’ve ever seen. I have heard her in interviews and she is a total snooze to even listen to. She has no depth, and I have a hard time seeing her in any other movie role, unless its “Dazed and Confused 2” I have no desire to read the books or see the movie because of her. Every time I see a preview I can’t help but roll my eyes and be annoyed. I just don’t get the hype?

lol Emo kids don't like Twilight.
My gf is solidly into the vampire genre and has read the majority of the books that cover vampires. I personally didn't mind the movie too much I thought it was watchable and funny at times... not sure if it was meant to be, but either way I enjoyed watching it, I didn't stand up and go "what a bunch of bull" like i do most times i watch a movie in a cinema.
The books are a different matter completely, my gf literally finishes them in under 3 days, that's how easy they are to read.. its not a good thing, the writing looks like a 13 year old penned it, and the chick herself says that she wrote and published the first book in 6 months and my GOD it shows.
So i have now gotten into the habit of defending Twilight as a movie.. besides the fact that the vampires glow in sunlight... it was aight

*sigh* One is my best friend. I just introduced her to True Blood. Hoping it will counteract Twilight.

Is that the one based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels?

*Sighs* I loved Anne Rice's Vampire series even though some of her books seemed to drag on for an eternity like her Vampires....
Some have said you know that S.M is the teenage A.R? I wanted to spew when I heard that, there's no way her story measure's up...
In regards to the New Moon movie, all I can say is the first movie bored me to tears.
*Shrugs* I don't know, maybe it's just because I like dark, spooky, eerie, evil Vampires that I just never took to Twilight. When I read the first book, I kept forgetting that they were Vampires!

Only thing I liked about the movie was the Native myth spin they took.

Ha tell that to the Emo kids here in St. Louis standing outside Hot Topic to get their autographed Twilight posters. Or maybe they were goth kids, I’m 31 years old and there weren’t "Emo's" when I was in school. So I may be confusing them with Goths, they all look the same to me though. Dark and depressed.

Regarding RPatzz - poor boy is stuck in a contract. Watched the MTV movie awards thingy (part of it). Boy looked miserable, so did the girl. They aren't any more thrilled about it than we are.

It is another thing to open your mind and slap a "For Rent/Best Offer/First Come First Served" sign on it.
Just because it is a mystery to YOU doesn't make it unexplained.

this second one looks... just as exciting as the first. although it does gain points for putting a werewolf in there.
gotta say preacher, you've went down my rankings after this display
tru blood is everything twighlight should have been. amazing program.. HBO does it again. so instead of wasting 2 hours watching paint dry... eh i mean twighlight... why not spend 12 hours watching something that's well made, with a great storyline and some good dialogue. and also people that can act.. always helps.

See, I don't mind a long book, as long as it has me hooked. And seeing as she's finished with her Vampire books, I wished she'd made them all twice as long. Although after Lestat decided he wanted to be a Saint, I kinda lost interest. Bad Lestat was so much better.
If I didn't have to hop off to work, this would be a much lengthier post. I shall return.
