this is crazy to me, my buddy and i were thinking how closely connected family guy and simpsons are...family guy just seems like a upscaled cartoon of the simpsons; a new version. Its almost like Seth McFarlane ripped of simpsons.

Homer Simpson = Peter Griffin (Dumb/ dosent understand anythng)
Marge Simpson = Louis Griffin (keeps the family united/ under control)
Bart Simpson = Chris Griffin (Outcasts in the family)
Lisa Simpson = Meg Griffin (Ugly, noone likes them, no friends)
Simpsons Dog = Brian Griffin (no resemblence, just funny how they have a dog as well)

-----------That right there shows a exact number of family memembers, and they relate to each other, its pretty funny------------

Peters Buddies he drinks with, can be like Homers Buddies as well..

You don't get Family Guy at all, apparently.

Although, spot on with how they both have a dog!! rolleyes.gif

What about Maggie and Stewie?

Also, Meg and Chris have nothing in common with Bart and Lisa.

This TV family has more in common with The Simpsons than Family Guy's "The Griffiths"...

I don't really care at the end of the day, all three shows made/make me laugh.

You know Ive thought about this before, Its like a balance. eg. Lord of The Rings - Harry Potter, Gone In 60 Sec - Fast & Furious etc.
The Simpsons are like comedy for the family but there are a few episodes that I had to question. lol Family Guy is okay but surpises me and American Dad, well,.... that show is just wrong and I love it.

The Simpsons is a classic show that paved the way for shows like Family Guy to exist and be popular. They are both great, one is just raunchier than the other!!! Back when the Simpson's came out though, a lot of the things they did and said were contriversal so they had they're share of censoring back in the day!!

Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are a balance... HOW?! Have you actually ever read either of these? Because if your making that statement, your understanding of both is very poor.

Family guy may be different, but the Simpsons were the ORIGINAL animated comic family.

Homer and Peter sure...Bart and Chris? No.Bart would be more comparable to Stewie in their roles on the show.

Every sitcom whether real or cartoon has the male being stupid/crazy and the but of all the jokes. I think this trend has it s basis in the fact that male comedians often get a sitcom and would naturally play the 'comedic' role in the show....also you can't the dumb/crazy one be the female, because that would be sexist.

Both Simpsons and Family Guy are tired and need to be put to bed in my opinion.

Perhaps they both are a little worn, but it's against a raging tide of crapola in the form of reality shows. At least they're part of the very small alternative... and I should mentioned an alternative worth watching. There's a lot of crap on television which shouldn't be, and isn't reality tv.

True that. I don't watch much of anything on TV anymore, South Park as well is past it's peak imo as well.

The only thing that can interest me is sometimes HBO and FX series. Entourage, Rescue Me, Band of Brothers, Generation Kill, Sons of Anarchy, etc. But eventually those either end or get old too(like Nip/Tuck or better yet Lost)The only things I've bin watching lately is Classic Star Trek and the recent seasons of Dr. Who but those are reruns that I watch off the computer.

Simpsons is really old and I stopped watching it years ago, it's too 'family friendly'. Family Guy was good but just reuses the same jokes and gags over and over again. South Park fails because it basically just tries too hard and is up it's own but and seemingly trying to 'jump the shark' every single episode.

However I'm really picky with my media I won't go see a movie unless it has at least 80% favorable review and even then I still find something to nitpick about tongue.gif

Aside from the complete concidences you have listed (which are full of holes as is) what basis do you have to make such a statement as 'Seth McFarlene ripped of the simpson's'? (it's off by the way thumbsup.gif not to be rude, author here and hate making typos of my own..)

Personally, I find that the Simpsons have become too politically correct in recent years...not as funny either.
