That doesn't say much for transformers...LMAO w00t.gif

The difference between Transformers and Twilight is it seems Transformers didn't even try...as In Michael Bay just got high one day and said "you know would be awesome?...a pot brownie joke! lulz!" and then filmed it. With Twilight people actually pretend it was a legit film based off a work of literature...instead of a tween movie based on few pages of poo.

LOL And transformers is a film based on S*** getting blown up and dirty jokes! Yep that sounds as bad as Twilight to me in an action sense, so I shall agree the two are equal in terms of quality. laugh.gif

And yes sometimes it seems life is a big joke...

To be fair Transformers was based off a kid's cartoon show and toy line. The juvenile dirty jokes were a product of Michael Bay and not prominent in the source material.

Remember that New Moon(Twilight's sequel) and G.I. Joe(Transformer's cousin) come out this year as well...oscar buzz? Lol

Sideswipe all the way. Even though he got about a minute of screen time, he was awesome. Favorite autobot second to Optimus all the way. grin2.gif

The movie was trite banal ****. Completely lowbrow and lacked sophistication, but it's from Michael Bay so no surprises there.

I didn't even like the original.

Er...yes mate, that was what the argument was about in the first place how Transformers got 'gutterized'. And as much as I dislike Twilight, it was somewhat modest, well the book was anyway. Sadly that didn't compensate for how rubbish it was.

I misinterpreted, I thought you meant the Transformers movie was based of a source material that was about explosions and dirty jokes.

Transformers 3 seemingly is going to feature Unicron and possibly Dinobots...a whole new kind of poo storm in my opinion. Based on the trailer I'm assuming New Moon is going to about a love triangle between vampire, werewolf, and girl(am I right?) because that's how you do teen romance drama...love triangle and drawn out crying fests...I'm hoping for a Blade appearance in the third act to end it.

I don't know, I haven't read New Moon, I barely got through Twilight. I've heard from a few twilight obsessed friends of mine that it goes something like---
Edward leaves Bella, so as to not put her in danger anymore because one of his family members gets a woof of her blood and tries to kill her. So reluctantly he leaves, little does he know she is in danger, werewolf Jacob comes on the scene to protect her since Edward has left, but apparently Edward is hardly in the story this time round.

I quite liked the first Transformers movie, the transformers were great, I loved Optimus Prime and thought the first movie was fun. Very silly, stupid, but fun. To here that this 2nd movie has been thrown in the gutter just that little bit more disappoints me. And I hope the next one picks up a little and eases up on the trash because I really feel it's unnecessary to have so much trash and cussing, but I have my doubts.

I saw it and the movie was awesome. The old robot guy was my favourite character. He owns.

I think Transformers 1 was better because Spielberg must have played a bigger part but also because it made a lot of money and the studio and Bay must have thought it made a lot of money because of the pee jokes and masturbation scene so they upped the ante for number two. Sadly Transformers 2 made a ton of more money and am expecting it to be worse.

Transformers 1 was decent but also shared similar problems. Overal it's a Shia Lebeouf movie with his robot sidekicks. Optimus isn't really that great of a character, he's a typical 'leader hero' in the same way Jazz was the 'token black guy'. It's just Optimus gets actual screen time, lines, and the better action scenes. He seems like the best character because of what we remember from the cartoon. The films have little characterization or character development.

Yeah like I said I doubt it will improve in that area. Well I saw a bit of it um from an--- "illegal" copy at a friends place lol, and there was a lot of unnecessary swearing too. They even had the Transformers swearing, I just think it was all so overdone, and poorly laid out. The first one was fun, this one was just--- try-hard IMO.

I think Optimus is the little bit that makes the movie worthwile, (well the first one anyway) without him it would be a lot more bleh. Like you said character developing is almost nil for the Transformers, so it would be even more bland without Optimus. Which is a shame because I would've like to have seen more of the Transformers characteristics outlined. Instead of them just swearing and blowing up stuff. I still think that this 2nd movie could have had less BS and still been good and fun to watch. With all the crap they threw in they could've given the transformers a little more space instead IMO.

I saw TF2, I thought it was a good popcorn flick, it won't win any oscars or anything, but it was enjoyable. Looking fwd to TF3! I'd give it 3 and 1/2 stars out of 5. thumbsup.gif

How did I miss this thread before?

I'm a massive Transformers fan, albeit mainly of the Generation 1 and Beast Wars era. I kinda liked the new film. I thought it was better than the first one, as featured a lot more scenes of the actual robots doing big robot-y stuff like fighting and shooting and stuff. But it also had the downsides of the first one, magnified - bad plot, bad acting, rubbish jokes and cheap innuendo. Well, that's just what you get when you have Michael Bay in charge I guess.

Transformers aren't JUST marketed to kids though - sure, a saturday morning cartoon squarely aimed at children has been a constant over the past 25 years, but for the past 10 years or so there have products aimed the older market, collectors toy lines that cost big money, and comic series' that ramp up the dark overtones and brutality quite a bit. The new movies are another product not aimed at children, aimed at 15 - 25 year olds IMO. The tie-in toys? They are marketed at children.

Anyways, ROTF is a good cheesy action film. Although it's not a good film. Does that make sense?
