The first thing I thought when I saw it was that it's a bear. Looks like one, runs like one. But after watching it a couple of more times, I'm sure I see a long tail. Gorllia maybe?

Really interesting and creepy video, whatever it is =]

Since when were bears in Michigan? I highly doubt it's a bear.

Hahahaha, that is most 100% a BEAR.
Scary, indeed, but it moves, looks, and attacks like a bear. The reason why it looks odd is because of the date of the film, naturally since its from a camera in the 70's it is grainy and of very poor quality.

Everyone is saying it is a bear.
I am sorry but I don't see this.
I have seen far too many bears in the wild and one things that they do not have is high shoulders.
Also, when bears run they are very limbering. Almost like they bounce.

This creature was very nimble.

I think the video is real and I think that this is a silverback gorilla.

Why is it there? I have no idea, maybe it excaped from a zoo or it was someones pet?

I'd have to say, given the fact that this appears to be shot in the U.P. (of Michigan) that it is nothing more than a bear. I live in the L.P. and think the dogman stories are all BS...

Here's a freeze frame of the bear teeth. Honestly, can't really tell much from that.

I think plenty can be told about this frame, which happens just after the impact. Electrical interference and scan lines on 8mm film? Really? No. Look, the rest of the film is real, 8mm film from the seventies but it's not all one continuous take, and there's no reason to believe all of the finished product was even shot with the same camera. The 20 second take with the "incident" doesn't show any of the original people, or the camera, or anything that definitely ties it in with the rest of the film, since it's a different take from them. In my mind, the frames with the scan lines prove that that segment was shot later with a camcorder on magnetic tape, and then made to appear to match the rest of the film. To me this is a clear cut hoax.

Firstly, this isn't a bear... anybody with real experience with bears in the wild will know that the 'creature' doesn't move, look, or behave like a bear at all... same with the muzzle... clearly not a bear. Secondly, this film has been thoroughly analyzed by a film technition at a recognized university... and has been confirmed to be genuine and free of manipulation. So, I'm not saying that this is a 'dogman' or anything... I'm just saying this isn't a bear. Could be a gorilla, though I have no knowledge of the behaviour and movement of gorillas... as I'm sure none of you do either wink2.gif Simply having watched tarzan or the discovery channel doesn't make you a certified gorilla pro tongue.gif Anyways, maybe this thread should be put to use... and analyze the film, as opposed to useless speculation and blind assumptions...

edit: If you go to the original site, that hosts the original film, you'll see it is not only much clearer and better quality... but it shows all 30 frames p/s which reveals closer to 10 frames of the teeth, as opposed to the one or two on youtube. You can download the film there and analyze it in any way you want original.gif

http://www.michigan-...m/00_gable.html

From this enhanced version it's clear this is not a bear, and doesn't reaaally look like a gorilla... though I'm in no position to say if it is :\

Like who? I mean, I'm just some guy on the internet and I know that there are no scan lines on 8mm film. Usually when someone says this it means any undergrad student they could find who would look at the thing.

it has no tail and it has a silver back that screams gorilla if this film was not faked that is, a professional can easily scan this film and debunk it if it was indeed altered by a man or something

The best way is to just track down that family and ask them???? Id be careful the mother chopping wood looked pretty evil to me, they looked like a bunch of scary sadists.

If anyone is brave enough why not just track down and ask the family that made it? Am I the only one that thinks this family seems totally scary and evil? I have a feeling that the ape in the film is not the bad guy here. AM i the only one that feels terror horror when they see the family in those creepy trucks and the cavewomen with the ax?
