In a moment largely unnoticed by the throngs of people in Lebanon waiting for autographs from the president of the United States, George W. Bush stopped to hold a teenager's head close to his heart.

Lynn Faulkner, his daughter, Ashley, and their neighbor, Linda Prince, eagerly waited to shake the president's hand Tuesday at the Golden Lamb Inn. He worked the line at a steady campaign pace, smiling, nodding and signing autographs until Prince spoke:

"This girl lost her mom in the World Trade Center on 9-11."

Bush stopped and turned back.

"He changed from being the leader of the free world to being a father, a husband and a man," Faulkner said. "He looked right at her and said, 'How are you doing?' He reached out with his hand and pulled her into his chest."

Faulkner snapped one frame with his camera.

"I could hear her say, 'I'm OK,' " he said. "That's more emotion than she has shown in 21/2 years. Then he said, 'I can see you have a father who loves you very much.' "

"And I said, 'I do, Mr. President, but I miss her mother every day.' It was a special moment."

That's a good story. And it shows Bush's true character. Very heart warming... especially if you're like Bush!  grin2.gif

And he's looking RIGHT at the camera...

Spends 2 years sending people in to die on this war, not so much as sneezing in the direction of New York, and then gets a nice photo op with this girl RIGHT before the elections...

Bush is absolutely disgusting...

I can't believe you think he did this just as a photo-op.

The article says that it was the father of this girl taking the picture. Not some media guy with a camera in his face. Bush is looking at the photo because he sees a camera being pointed at him!

I guess I can believe you think it's a photo-op though. You don't like Bush, and this being true would change your opinion of him a little too much for comfort. However, don't be so cynical! There are other stories like this on the net. In fact, sit down and watch some of his speeches. He's not an evil man like you think. He is truely quite the opposite.

I would, but I don't have enough free time to wait for him to form a sentance.

Every speach Bush has ever done has been about flag waving, and the quest of glory for the US...this picture is exactly the same. Of course it's a photo-op...why has he spent every single day since 9/11 ignoring the people who lost family? Why does he suddenly have this little girl there to hug right before the election, that opinion polls show he is strugging in.

My point of veiw on this has nothing to do with my absolute hatred of Bush...it's a rather obvious election ploy. I will, however, admit my opinion on Bush hasn't been helped by it.

Please, Seraphina  rolleyes.gif it has everything to do with it. In your eyes he'll never do anything you approve of.

I do, however, undertand that you don't like Bush. I think that's been made pretty clear  wink2.gif I'm just going to insist that you shouldn't because he is a great person and a good president.

It's sad that you have to dig through the news to find these things... you'll never see something this good about Bush on the front page or even anywhere in the paper. (except the thanksgiving one, that was just too good to ignore)

Just playing devil's advocate here, but manifestly the fact that you know that he 'does this sort of thing all the time' is because he does 'it' in circumstances where it's inevitably going to be reported.

Put simply, it's a very callow and transparent politician's trick, employed by his counterparts the world over. The fact that Bush does it makes him no better or worse than most politicians in most democratic countries.

The mans opinions and feelings are moot; he saw a photo opportunity and he did what a politician always does. To claim this photograph is evidence of his deep sensitivity, or empathy, or whatever, is redundant. The very nature of his profession makes it so.

Again, just playing devil's advocate, here.

To determine whether or not a politician is being truthful, honest, or spontaneous in his good deeds, you have to make a judgement on his character based on exactly how it happened, what he said, the circumstances of it, and even unexplainable things, like whether or not it "looked" honest or not.

I personally believe that Bush is indeed the person the articles make him out to be. This is based on my judgement of his dimeanor when he talks, what he says, the fact that he never says anything about these heartwarming moments like a politician would, the fact that these stories are sometimes reported by people who are not in the media and are buried in the news if in the news at all, etc.

The thing about the anti-Bush crowd is this: They believe Bush has lied to them. If you think a politician has lied to you and you saw an article on him like these, of course you would be skeptical and cynical! It's based on past observations of him.

The fact is though, Bush hasn't lied. He is an honest person. Democrats and liberals keep spreading these outright lies about him and it's fooling so many people. If you want to see why I don't think Bush is a liar, check the "why bush is the man for the job" thread.

Once you see that Bush has been truthful about Iraq, war on terror, etc., these stories won't offend you so much. They will be heartwarming!

That's about all the advice I have in me for now tongue.gif

A man's brother died in Iraq and he wrote President Bush a letter. A while later he was at a rally where Bush was speaking and as the president was going around shaking hands the guy mentioned the letter to him. The president stoped and looked at him and said "I remember that letter, how is your mother?"

Heard it on talk radio from the guy who wrote the letter. You know everyone listens to talk radio.  rolleyes.gif

really. you cant expect any politician to miss the chance for publicity? especially around election time? bush probably was doing it out of some feeling for the girl, the publicity and good image was just laignaippe.

free cream with the coffee.

and the girl probably was comforted at the same time, even if he was doing it entirely for publicity.

Heh, isn't it one or the other??

It is your opinion that he is being sneeky, cynical, and fake when he does these things, but why do you think that? It all comes down to a judgement of his character. *points finger to previous nindracula post*
