  • "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream" - Edgar Allan Poe

Posted 05 October 2009 - 07:51 AM

Hey UM members, New here as you can see. I've been an avid viewer of these forums for quiet some time though. I was wondering if there were any history channel episodes (or any of the sort).. Or possibly documentaries of Urban Legends (already seen the movie.. rofl). Describing different types of urban legends and/or the origins of these legends and how they get started up. Do they stem from some sort of truth?

Thanks A Lot!
- Joe

Welcome!

There are a few shows we get in the UK on the Zone Reality channels one being simply titled 'Urban Legends: Fact or Fiction'. It's on most of the time, and is a fun show to watch.

Just about every legend or myth stems from some kind of truth.

I'd just felt the need to post that Beyond Belief was a GREAT show. I used to watch it all the time as a kid.
Was rather disappointed when they quit airing it. =/

horrorpopper, all viewing guests & future posting members reading this,

If you liked Beyond belief: Fact or Fiction you should like this story that was on that show. Jonathan Frakes was an excellent host for this SyFy original docu program. That's now seen as repeats on The Sky Channel and The Chiller Channel. :o :tu:

Quoting Stockard Channing from 'Myths of Pearl Harbor'; while scenes of the burning WTC Twin Towers are mixed with the USS Arizona Memorial's names of her lost sailors.

If you want a DVD check out www.cropseylegend.com. It's about the it's not about the Cropsy Maniac that terorizes campers in upstate New York but it is about something much worse, a child killer from Staten Island. He would dump bodies on the grounds of the old Willowbrook State School where he would work from time to time. Definately check it out.

You are very welcome Joey! I don't mean to be whipping a dead horse, but that true legend took place four blocks West of my home. ;) It is mostly forgotten around here and rightly so. :(

Can you give me your take on it? And what your town thinks of it? Is it sort of a hushed topic?

Joey,

I wish the locals would take donations to place a historical marker in that old school yard. But alas, it would sit but nine miles from a Toyota plant. East of here 7 miles it is rummored the VFW's M-60 Patton tank's barrel is elevated just right to hit it, on purpose.

I would like to hear Bobby on the radio show called Coast to Coast AM. A short guest appearance could set the story straight. It's hard to say of our residents who would even be interested. When the story came out in our paper everyone must have lopped it off into the coincidence files. I give it far more credit than that. It is mostly forgotten like most legends that can end up in the fact category.

My credit goes to the little book explaining coincidence, and it does not fare well on paranormal web sites.
