I've been running Windows 7 since well, for over a year... it's got some really nice new features, it's extremely stable, and I think it is Microsoft's best OS yet. Windows 7 is what Vista should have been. You'll enjoy it! Promise!

Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Windows 7 is here. Thank God.
It isn’t often one feels the need to praise the Almighty over a computer operating system, particularly one from Microsoft Corp. Then again, Windows 7 is polished, stable and smooth -- in short, everything its unlamented predecessor, Windows Vista, wasn’t.
Personal computers preloaded with Windows 7, along with boxed and upgrade versions of the new software, go on sale Oct. 22. While the global economic turmoil makes predictions chancy, Windows 7 deserves to be a hit, and a stimulus to PC sales worldwide.

On a personal note, I have to say that the Windows 7 beta I was running on my testing machine worked like a dream, with the latest updates.
Now, am I going to be camping out at the retail outlet to get my hands on a version first? No, because I am not Vista damaged. I'll wait until the hype is over.

I won't be lining up either... I get it for free, even when I'm not working for MS. LOL. I have friends in high places. LOL. Muwhahahaha. In fact, I have to get this laptop over to campus to get the RTM on this laptop... i'm tired of Vista, it does give me some problems.
I think the build I have on my other laptop is some daily build from early July... God only knows, it's probably missing some reverse integrations, but if it is, I haven't noticed. haha. It's been great for quite a while. It was good 18 months ago when I was installing it right from the build servers, it's WAY better even now.
I really really wished Vista has just waited until now... Windows 7 is what Vista should have been, but the pressure was too great to release Vista and it had to be done. Let this be a lesson to the "market" Be careful what you ask for...

I had no problems with my video drivers, the ATI toolkit did not work, but that can hardly be blamed on Microsoft.

Yes, you should.
My TV tuner is with a Phillips chipset and pretty old. At the end I had to take apart the Win 95 driver (don't want to use the R-engineering word) and write a new one with the XP SDK. Works now except for the remote, but I hardly ever used that anyway.
Wonder how that will work with Windows 7.

Ok, then let me suggest another procedure. Find out what chipset your card has and find cards by other manufacturers with the same chipset. Maybe one of the competitor's driver works.

Vista is OK but I'm tired of the lack-of-memory freeze-ups.
Maybe I can put it on my Christmas wish list.

Short answer? Win 7 is great.
Longer Answer? I have been using it since the first public beta. Even in beta it was more stable than the latest Vista. I boots up faster, uses less memory and is faster (And nicer looking) than Vista was. In short, this is the actual successor to XP and worth upgrading to. Anyone who wants to stay with Windows ought to seriously consider it....
All of that said - I do suggest doing a clean install rather than the upgrade. Vista has too much baggage to cleanly upgrade. So back up all of your data and be prepared to reinstall your apps before doing the upgrade. If that is too much, you may have to stay with either XP or Vista (Whatever you are using right now).
