Quick question

I have windows Vista (nightmare)..it regularly updates, and I can’t shut down my laptop until the updates have finished...long story short – recently when more updates had been uploaded, I noticed that my Microsoft Windows Word begun to display a new pop up message each time I log on to it... It read – This is not a genuine word doc..blah blah... I don’t understand why it all of a sudden read this

Has anyone ever had this with Vista updating before?

I noticed I had 16 updates this week for Vista. I did install updates and shut down, but my machine got stuck at update 2 all night. I noticed when I woke up the next morning.
When I go to heaven, I hope to find out if all the people I gave directions to made it to their destination.

Yeah Vista has been throwing the updates out like crazy recently. I personally have not had a problem with them.

I hope someone knows more about MS Word. That does seem an odd thing to happen.

Normally when your PC informs you of updates of any kind, it gives you an option to allow the updates or do them later... But for some reason if you leave it long enough, its like Vista has a mind of its own and will do it regardless

I have seen me on line workingaway and my PC shutting down in a flash and re-starting due to Vista and its many endless updates...

I recall my old PC when I used to use Windows XP...I never had that much bother with XP

Too weird for my liking..

Vista tends to throw more updates than XP ever did..

I got this laptop last christmas (treated myself to a good PC for once lol) and thought I had one of the best on the market, but I had no idea the nightmare the updates can cause

When I read the message on the pop up when logging on to Microsoft Word...it read - this is not a geniune windows word doc yada yadda..it only says this when I have re-started my PC and start fresh... but when I 1st bought the PC last year, I never had this message ...even with the several updates with Vista....thats why I found it weird

Im no expert on computers...I wouldnt be surprized if someone came on and told me the solution to the problem and why etc and it sounded so simple LOL...thats just my luck!!

Your problem is that you are using VISTA! Ask MissWellsWell all about it I'm sure she'll fill you in. :P

I refuse to use Vista because it does not support my legacy hardware that I require for my music equipment. :(

I had an 'optionial' update for Pista, between the behemoth updates it usually forces upon me. For Windows Word Office (I believe); it was barely 750k (So it was tiny in today's standards) and would check to see if you have a genuine install of the program.

If not, it would 'create a pop-up to alert, and annoy you, into buying a license.'

I wish I could find the specific update for it; I know I never downloaded it - I don't use Office.

perhaps you would need to find some software that will support your music equipment on vista.

I'm not computer savvy myself, but you could try a system restore back to a time when it was ok. I think this undoes any updates, then I would definitely turn off automatic updates, so when an update becomes available you can read what it is and decide whether or not to update.
I'm not sure if this would work if the problem is virus related though.

Hey Geri :) Sorry you're having such a hard time with this last update... I had a problem with it too.. my machine blue screened during the updates and I got that popup for Office too.

Protostar has the right answer here, and the easiest one. Do a system restore, then do the updates again, and it should be fine. Mine was. :)

This is exactly why I don't update vista. It has a tendency to make itself worse
