Being an ex serviceman and survivor of many NAAFI club discos
I can bear witness to the fact that modern man is still seeking copulation with creatures that are barely human on a regular basis ;)

On a serious note, this isn't exactly a new theory,

As a kid at school we were told that the Neanderthals may have died out because of 'intermingling of the species' and I can remember a program on the BBC about how modern man took over the Neanderthals lands, killing the males and taking their females into their own tribes.

Like others here I think this New revelation is more about one scientists self publicity than adding anything new to the debate.

This is an interesting idea, but I doubt it.
First of all, the article clearly states that his findings will be released along with his upcoming analysis on the neaderthal genome, which would be very cool.

However, I doubt it.
As TalkOrigins showed here, the neanderthal mtDNA clearly falls outside of the range of variation of human mtDNA. Although I cannot be sure, I suspect this means that the two species did not interbreed, could not interbreed, or could not produce viable offspring.

I mean, technically, it's probable: Heck, odd humans even today have sex with all sorts of weird animals. However, it didn't amount to much with neanderthals.

LOL.

Reading the title of this thread, I can't stop picturing a tired businessman in a wrinkled 3 piece suit hitting on the hairy chick at the end of the bar...

Damn that prehistoric tequila!

Reading this made me laugh. I wonder, if it was possible the moldern men had sex with Neanderthals. I to think its one scientists quest for publicity, it nothing new I was taught the same theory that the Neanderthals died out, because of intermingling of the species.

Well...doesn't "modern men had sex with Neanderthals" and "intermingling of the species" mean the same thing? How do you think they "intermingled"?
