They are really not! Desktops are relatively less expensive, have better components and are easier to upgrade and maintain and tend not to cook things so easily.

I'm sure it ultimately comes down to what is best for you not which is better. Laptops are more portable and may be considered more desirable but desktops are cheaper and get better performance.

the 1 reason why i would choose a laptop over a PC is that i can sit in front of the TV and use my laptop at the same time, whereas if i used a PC i would have to go in the other room away from the TV :hmm:

Agreed. Mind you, I've only ever had one laptop to compare, and that was second hand. I do prefer desktops though, my current one has been upgraded a few times and is still going good...*touch wood*

I have both and I hardly ever use my laptop. It's mainly a backup I use in case I want to do something in another room and for if my desktop breaks.

A laptop is better if you are short on space or travel a lot or if you happen to personally prefer a laptop.

Desktops are larger, less mobile and take up more room but they are cheaper to build and easier to repair or upgrade, if you don't intend to take your computer with you anywhere then a desktop is generally preferrable.

If you want to surf the net, or do work, get a laptop. But I like playing newer games. Those fry a laptop quick.

I wouldn't change my desktop for any laptop, I wouldn't give up: 4 terabytes of hard disk, 10 gb of RAM, 8 cores of processing power, and multiple ports for connecting everything!!
Like some people say really depends what your needs are. When I am on the go, If I need to check my email and basic internet browsing my iPod Touch is more than enough.
My two cents.
