Not to mention you will be using a smaller screen and a less comfortable keyboard.
Even with this said...I prefer laptops.

A lot of people I know get a USB mouse and keyboard to use for when they're home with their laptop. That at least solves those problems some of the time.
And Leon, most people do not need a 4TB hard drive, 10GB of RAM, and 8 (!!!) cores. Nerd! Just kidding.

At home I use a 'Frankenstein-ed' PC that I built myself for all my music needs. A laptop would never cut it with the hardware I use for that.

Yeah I also know people who hook up their laptop to a Monitor too but that kind of defeats the point a bit.

Generally speaking though I'm right.
For example if you have a desktop and laptop that are equal from the same supplier the desktop is cheaper most of the time.
Of course you may find better deals shopping between retailers and different brands, factoring the monitor also raises prices a bit, but generally speaking laptops cost more buck for the bang.

Also, I've had a laptop, and it wasn't that great. I'd rather have a desktop.
Do your work, then step back. The only path to serenity.

Laptops are becoming obsolete now, the netbook is the new mobile platform for computers. It is a hell of a lot more mobile and all the new technology is being funded for/put into netbooks now. There isn't much point in having the in between so laptops will slowly go soon.
Desktop: gaming other applications like music/audio production/editing and imaging software etc.
Netbooks: mobility and surfing the internet etc.

Impossible. You might think the "retail" spec looks better etc but that is incorrect.
Take these to specs
Laptop £400
2.4 ghz dual core
4 gig memory
160gb hdd
8800gtsm graphics
Desktop £400
2.4ghz dual core
2 gig memory
80 gb HDD
8800gts graphics
This is how shop specs work... and most people will automatically go for the laptop thinking it's a better deal. Well you are so wrong it's unbelievable.
In reality this is what the specs could be:
Laptop £400
2.4 ghz dual core with an fsb of 200mhz with 2mb cache (very slow, desktop is 5 times quicker)
4 gig memory 320mhz fsb (very slow meaning the 2 gig on the desktop is actually way faster)
160gb hdd 3200rpm 4mb cache IDE (very slow speed)
8800gtsm graphics (notice the M, this means mobile... and it is about 40 times smaller than the desktop equivelent, you can figure out how much slower that would be, COD on full settings? no way)
Desktop £400
2.4 ghz dual core with an fsb of 1000mhz with 32mb cache (see the difference now?)
2 gig memory 1000mhz fsb (yeah that is a lot faster)
80gb hdd 7200rpm 32mb cache SATAII (pretty damn quick and loads of room to upgrade inside the desktops case, for £50 you could have an extra 500gb's lol)
8800gts graphics (huge graphics card, COD on full settings, hell yeah!!!)
This is an example of retail spec, people who don't know about computers fall for it all the time. It is far cheaper to build you own desktop. It would cost about £250 for that build on your own. (if it was real but I quickly made up numbers to show you how it works, I get paid to do it for real so there is no way I'm putting up proper specs etc)

Hardware, Hardware I said
One of my sound cards is an external card that connects to a PCI card. If you can get that to work with a laptop I'd be VERY impressed. LOL
