Yep I admit I didn't realize that about Christmas for a long time. Easter was the one that I first started to question as a kid, eating my white chocolate bunny trying to sort out what in the world this had to do with Jesus.

You are smart to question these Pagan festivals.
Speaking to the Pharisees and the experts of the law, Jesus said regarding traditions:
Mark 7:6-9(NASB)
(6)And He said to them, "Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.
(7)‘BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.’
(8)"Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men."
(9)He was also saying to them, "You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.

Since Jesus is either too boring or just not important enough to have His own holiday, it’s reasonable and appropriate to have an already existing Pagan event, and sprinkle a little Jesus on top and slap that festival with a Christian label. Whether He’s sharing a ‘holiday’(tradition) with a rabbit and its eggs or a jolly obese man with magic reindeer is irrelevant. The important thing to remember is that it’s a ‘Christian’ holiday and we should spend approximately 90 minutes of each of those two days to show the community we’re good Christians and go to the all-important church services to honor Jesus with our lips.

My family went to visit Hershey PA recently and we took a little tour of the chocolate factory. We got to see the back room where they housed all the witches. A big conveyer belt went right through and all the little candies sped by while the witches all chanted and danced around all evil-like. Then Satan came in to curse all the candy, but he had to wear a hair net so the candy would still pass govt. regulations.

I don't know about smart, but Easter really threw me for a loop. We'd be hunting Easter eggs in the morning, watching Ten Commandments that night and Jesus never made an appearance there either, lol.
