Those things are dangerous unless you have an experienced psychic helping you and even then I would warn against it. I have read and heard more dark and bad experiences than good come from those things. There have even been a few cases of possession possibly linked to ouije board usage. Those things give a spirit a way into our world and it is hard as hell to get them to leave once they're here.
Or possibly the person using the board was mentally ill to begin with and escalating symptoms and outbursts were blamed on use of the board.

I have to agree that I think most if not all problems people claim to have had, and blame on Ouija boards, are quite obviously problems with one or more person's own mental and emotional states and interests. Randomhit10 up above's son was into demon worship, but inexplicably blames the Ouija board for actually being the nexus where all the bad stuff started happening - like without it, everything would be roses. That's just an example, from my perspective, and I'm not trying to single anyone out, just my view, although I'm not involved, so naturally could be seen as "not able to get it" or grasp the immediate situation as it was.
I think as long as the teacher approves the project, everything should be copacetic, because they obviously think there is something to be learned or proven or disproven with the experiment. I do again recommend the "double blind", as it were, test.

I also think it would be really interesting if someone took a more scientific approach to the Ouija board. The blind-folding experiment is a good one! Other ideas would be to document temperatures before and after using the board, recording evps, videotaping sessions, and looking up any information that the board gives you. If you speak to someone through the board who claims to be a certain person, then you could try to see if this person did indeed exist at some point and if any of the information given is accurate.
That does sound like a good project! I would probably do something like that myself, but I am way too chicken!

my family went through some problems because of our son using the ouija board...he was into demon worship and was using the board to try to conjure up demonic spirits...he finally woke something up...not sure what it was but it raised cain in our home...if you have never had a problem then good...i hope you don't ever...we did...don't take my word for it alone....ask the many others who have had problems...i didn't believe in demonic spirits either, until this...was a hard and scary lesson....if you try hard enough and long enough you will probably make contact...but i really hope you don't try...it will not be worth it...

It could be argued that Ouija board use is a symptom and not a cause.
