If you want to get rich later on in the game then give the wanted posters to the guard when you're a kid. Selling high in the rich part of town later on makes you big bucks.

Right when the game starts you play as the little kid for awhile. During this time you go on little quests to collect coins to buy the music box. One of these quests has you find 5 or so wanted posters scattered around the city and at the end of the quest you can choose to give them to the Guard or give them to the Gang Member guy. If you give them to the Guard part of the city will become prosperous when you return tot he city later, if you give it to the Gang guy it turns into a slum.

When buying up property to make money you will get more from prosperous then the slum.

However you don't really need that much money to get through this game, to get good weapons you can do one the many side quests that awards a specialty legendary weapon or considering you only really need to buy 2 things(sword and gun) you should have enough money anyways.

this game is good and pretty deep to. It is kinda short but when I played as a bad character I bought up all the shops and houses I could and made all the prices outrageous and crippled the economy in some of the cities. Walking around the cities where I owned most everything people were going around complaining about high prices and everyone was downbeat and sometimes depressed while I was raking in the cash. On my good character I did the opposite and I made everything reasonably cheap and the people were happy and upbeat and everyone loved my hero character. Some of the things you do really mattered in the game

Not really though...the story and gameplay doesn't change.

The only big changes happen with astetics. Doing certain quests will make a poor neighborhood rich but all that gives you is more or less money and/or NPC praise or hate.
