Can't say I've ever heard of the newspaper, but I know I've read where there is no such thing as junk DNA. Recently too.
An open-minded view of the past allows for an unprejudiced glimpse into the future.

And you seem to remember right...too bad Sr. Chang did not read it before writing his "discovery".

Just check out the DNA part with the internal link. Holographic Universe is an eye opener also.

[poetic mode on]
Our ocean of ignorance is so large compared to our islands of knowledge...conspiracies/outlandish theories are like wooden boats, for most of them you don't expect them to survive the open sea...they are more like a superficial tour of the unknown. But once in a while one of them reaches a new continent...Scientific theories are like ships...they can "hold more water", but it takes more time to make them. Whenever one of them sinks (like Titanic) everyone will notice and remember it.

Perhps the reason there is no proof of The Old Gods.
Could be Cultural if they had a respect for the land pehaps they left no mark safe the knowledge they shared. Or perhaps they wished their existence be forgotten and scoured all trace of themselves. This makes a bit more sense if they were studying us and did not want the expirement or study to be contaminated.
Aside from conspiracies we often forget the wrought of nature that destroys much of our modern marvels. A good example of Such Erosion would be New Orleans. If not for the constant repairs to our abomidable cities how many Modern structures would stand to date?

To be honest I doubt that many of our modern structures would last as long, as say .... erm ... the Egyptian pyramids for example.
Take a look at what lasts longer, even here on the "old" continent. Cathedrals, castles, old buildings tend to last a lot longer.
Modern does not mean better or longer lasting. Most of time buildings are made out of purely functional designs or out of estetic reasons, durability does not seem to be a prerequisite anymore.
