Fantastic Horizon tonight. If you want to see the greatest minds in the world stumbling, stuttering, erring and admitting they 'just don't know' watch:

http://www.bbc.co.uk...rammes/b00nslc4

"Errr..the equations don't work", " no-one has ever seen a black hole", "general theory of relativity is wrong","Einsteins theories break down at event horizon", " quantam mechanics are wrong, they lead to a seires of infinities", "all the maths end with infinity at a singularity and that is meaningless in the real world"

The bloke from MIT at the end is a perfect example of pride before a fall, the next great hope. Last line ..... "we don't know what is out there, people might give you an answer but they will probably be wrong"

Why is that a problem? They will give you the answer they have - which to them is correct to within the best abilities of current theories and measurement capabilities. They also know that it is not the end result, but while it most likely needs to be tweaked, the option exists it has to be discarded altogether.

It is how science works and progress is generated. Is that a problem? Or did I miss something? If so, I apologize. :)

I don't know if you watched the show but it was just amazing to me to see all the greatest minds alive today simply admitting that they just don't have a clue and that all our, so far, accepted theories just don't stack up. To them it is not 'correct' it is wrong 'to within the best abilities of current theories and measurement capabilities'.

Frankly, no, I do not have the ability to watch right now (ahem, in a teleconf and I am sure I would miss out without the sound on the video :P) so I was just curious. I apologize, I should have stated that I did not watch it.

I'll watch it when I am done with work:)
