I assume you mean Sleepy Hollow. The headless horseman is a legend. I think Irving was just retelling an old tale.

The Headless Horseman is a retelling of a traditional German folktale. Would be nice if it were real though, that'd be a fun episode of Ghost Hunters to watch. Then again if enough people believe it's real... you never know what can be created through the use of free flowing energy (ie The Philip Experiment).

It's funny you should mention this. I think I remember reading somewhere about southern Headless Horsemen. Yes, HorseMEN. Supposedly they are decapitated horse theives. Not sure what there deal is. All I remember reading is that they ride around in packs instead of one solitary Hessian soldier looking for his head.

I'm from very close to Tarrytown and the real Sleepy Hollow. the horseman story was big around halloween. we used to go to the real sleepy hollow and visit IRving's one time residence, and listen to a reading of teh HH story, and watch a reenactment.

I've not heard that it was a retelling of a german folktale. It must have been pretty changed though, as when it was written canon were not old technology and stuff. I don't doubt that every culture has a tale of a decapitated ghost searching for its head though.

some quick research reveals a story written later taking place in texas where the horesmen are decapitated horse thieves.

The headless horseman is aweomse, one of America's better myths and tales. One day I wanna dress up as the headless horseman on halloween and ride arouned on a horse and go scare people. But i can understand there being a "heradless horseman" for about every culture.

That would be a great show.

"So what did we get?"

"Well nothing on the thermal or DVR. But we did notice that odd thing you spoted in the woods."

"Yeah, cue that up will ya?"

"Ok here we go. There, right there. See it?"

"Yeah...yeah I think so. What is that?"

"Well I'm not sure but to me it looks like Grant being cut to pieces with a sword."

"Ok that's what I thought it was. Good work catching that. Now any EVPs?"

At a lake I goto every year to fish there is a road called 'Sleepy hollow'. It's a creepy small road, by this secluded lake... pretty wierd!

I did some of my growing up in the Kansas City metro area. My parents were both country folks and would always take me out to the fair in Wyandotte County. The fairgrounds have been sold off now and there is a waterpark going in. It is right near Cabela's. Anyway, they had a haunted house out there during October and hay rides and suchlike. During the hayride a headless horseman would chase you around. It was kinda scary.

A few years back, I was walking to my truck from my deerstand. I'd let it get completely dark on me and was deep in the woods on a trail. I got to thinking about the Disney version, which was danged spooky when you're a little kid. Anyway, I about spooked myself. Don't think a deer rifle would be much good on a haint.

I LOVE Disneys version. When I was a kid I would play it over and over around Halloween. It drove my parents crazy.

  • We should respect a person not because who they are, but what they do with their life, is the way they earn our respect.
