money.cnn.com said:

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- A California judge awarded Facebook $711 million in damages against spammer Sanford Wallace for bombarding the Web site with junk messages.

"We won another battle in the fight against spam," said Facebook, which announced the October 29 ruling on its Web site on Friday.

The moral of this story? DON'T MESS WITH FACEBOOK.
There is a theory which states that if ever for any reason anyone discovers what exactly the Universe is for and why it is here it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another that states that this has already happened. - Douglas Adams.

That is completely stupid. It's just some guy sending out stupid messages that end up in your spam folder? I don't understand what the big deal is. Look at the spam the big companies send out. I think it's a waste of time and money.

Oh no, people can't get to their meaningful wall posts through all the SPAM. How will we ever survive?

Picking up a telephone sounds like a good start to me.

It just shows that now days anyone can get 100's of millions/billions of dollars for any old reason except for something that actually matters.

Facebook is spammy to begin with. My feed is always spammed with apps. No matter how many times I block Mafia Wars, somehow, it always finds it's way back. <_<

Actually, you can block it and it does stay gone... the problem is the people that play it... they junk their own accounts up with it as Wall Posts they've written that have nothing to do with the application itself. To block it completely, you have to block that "friend". I have a couple of friends that started playing that and others got so mad at them they had a create a separate account for their personal pages. LOL.

I'm glad they're pinning people who spam facebook. Why? Because like it or not, Facebook has become a valuable networking tool for business. I've been actively using it to find a job (I've probably gotten more valid job leads from facebook than I have from Monster or other job sites) and I use it to post the jewelry I make and sell. Love or hate social networking, it's here to stay.

Does no punishment ever fit the crime? It certainly doesn't seem so.
